Factory power steering with 70's GM pump

How well should my factory p/s work with a 70's style pump (off a 1978 Suburban)? It is fine driving but parking is a little hard. I do have a small steering wheel and about 5° positive castor so that makes it a little harder to turn. So is a bit more effort when parking compared to a 70's GM factory car normal or not?

The problem is not your pump, it's the small steering wheel and the caster.

Thanks, that's exactly why I mentioned those two things.

Those pumps work fine with linkage assist style PS, that is how my 1978 Corvette is built.
