I don't know of anything better than Julianos, unless you get a set out of a salvage yard. I've considered that.

I found this place years ago and got some webbing samples from them. Don't know if they're still in business but they'll build seatbelts to your specs or sell custom pieces.

I've used Julianos for my last wagon, and to be honest..I'd like something a bit higher end this time...
Any advise on seat belt vendors from you guys building custom rides?
I got a set from Wesco Performance a few years back for my son's 59 Mercury. They are a good source seat belts as well.

Keep in mind that like most other items we buy, Julianos and all the other distributors don't actually manufacture their products. These aftermarket seatbelts all look the same no matter where you buy them from....they have the same buckles, anchors, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if Andover is the wholesale source for all of these guys. And they have more choices for customization.

So I've been distracted with all of life's challenges lately, but did get a set of inexpensive 3 point belts installed several months ago now. Just to be able to drive it around while I continue the build...

I put the front windshield in a couple weeks ago now. But all of a sudden I'm having issues with the front headlights going out after a couple minutes of being turned on. I suspected the (new) headlight switch at first, but there is NO heavy electrical amperage loads going thru it anymore, as I've wired relays in for the high and low beams. And just yesterday, it did it again so I pulled one of the relays and put a new one in and it worked (for a couple minutes). So I had 30/40 amp relays in there. I think they're too light for the load the H4 bulbs are putting thru them. I'm swapping for a 40/60 relay to see what happens next. If that don't hold, then I'll have to rewire with 60/80 relays (as their spades are larger than the connectors I have in there now). OR...split each headlight to its own relay (Driver Hi Beam, Driver Low Beam, Pass-High beam, Pass low beam).

Right now I have both hi beams on 1 relay, and both low beams on the other. Did I screw up doing it this way?

I'm also waiting for the CA DMV to mail the annual renewal bill (comes in Nov), and this time I'll pay it and take it off NON-OP and get legal to drive on the street,
I've been doing 3 to 5 mile test drives from my house around the neighborhoods lately, but I'm gonna get busted if I keep that up (unregistered).

Got a quote for about $900 for annual Hagerty insurance ($75K declared value). I'll have to get that policy before the DMV will issue the tags (proof of insurance)..

money and time, time and money, remember Paul...it's a hobby right?

Paul, the typical H4 headlights only draw around 60 watts each on high beam so that's only 5 amps times 2, or 10 amps total. The relay current capacity isn't the problem. I'd check to see if there's power to the relay coil when the lights go out. If not, then you can work back from there.

Yes...there is. I checked that yesterday. Power to the high beam relay (from the high/low beam footswitch) when in high beam mode. And then power to the low beam relay when in low beam mode. So I know with certainty that each relay is getting the "signal" from the foot switch. When the lights went out last time, i felt the relay and it was warm. It never "clicked" when it went off...but definately wasn't transfering the power to the headlight wire...

So simplest thing is to try a heavier relay. And yes, that's counterintuitive...as these should only be drawing 10 to 15 amps MAX when both headlights are on.
These relays were some cheap 30/40 units I bought with the pigtails from Amazon a while back.

I'd pop the relay open and see if it's burned or the contacts are stuck. You might also want to check for a short to ground on the headlight wires with the bulbs unplugged.

Perhaps. But if there's something wrong you might just burn it up too. I'd be looking at whether the current is abnormally high and the cause if I were you. Is the headlight power circuit fused? What size fuse are you using?

WC, did you check power at the headlight plug, maybe unplug one and see if you loose power there? Do both lights have separate grounds or one common ground, this is a good place for a power probe.
