    Taildraggerdriver

Hi I go by Taildraggerdriver. I fly a 1952 Cessna 170B thus the moniker of a person flying an old conventional gear airplane or taildragger, have been a pilot and flown this airplane for over 30 years.
I live in Halfway, Oregon and my airplane lives directly behind my house on a nice dirt strip.

I'm new to the forum but have been a trifive owner since high school. I bought my first Chevrolet (my 3rd car) in 1968. That was a 1955 210 2door with a 283 2bbl 3speed on the floor, I still own it today.

I have been a member of the National Corvette Restorers Society (NCRS) since 1982. and was a member of the on Classic Chevy Club when it was Tri5s only and unaffiliated.

I have several cars I'm restoring. But focused on 2 right now.

    2. 1956 Corvette 265, 225HP 2 4bbl carbs, powerglide.

    3. 1957 3100 small window short box Pickup with a 6cy 4sp.

I have some other cars in the barn:

    4. 1955 Sedan Delivery 6cy 3sp on the column.

    5. 1956 Nomad 265 210hp 4bbl, powerglide

    6. 1956 210 4door mostly for parts.

I worked for the US Forest Service and found many of the cars in the woods on someones farm. I collected them and put them in the barn till I could work on them when I retired.

Well I'm retired and working on them now. I have a 30' by 50' shop which is mostly done. I bought a Globe gas station hoist and a farm sale and am working on getting ready to install it.

Enough about me for now. Hope to meet all kinds of folks on the forum and help out if I can.

    Thanks

    Eric D. Twombly

Welcome to the site Eric. Post some pics of your car if you get a chance. I'm also a pilot and licensed A&P mechanic (in a past life) but I haven't flown for several years now.

Welcome to the site, Eric! Sounds like you have a busy life and schedule! We'd love to see some photos of your projects and stored cars as well...

PS. Did you ever have occasion to see/drive a US Forestry Service 'window sedan delivery'??

    Some of my projects

    57PickUp.JPG
This is my 1957 Pickup I'm just starting to get ready for restoration.
I bought this truck in 1975 for $100 in this condition, it was my logging equipment. I skidded and hauled all the logs for a 20' x 40' log cabin east of Eugene, Oregon with this truck directly or pulling an irrigation pipe trailer for longer logs.
Now it will finally get some love. Truck turns over hope to get it running in the next few days, but may need to get the distributor rebuilt first.

    56Vette.JPG
    This is my 1956 Corvette,
I have been collecting parts for this car since I bought in 1972 for $2000. (money made fighting forest fires)
    I bought it for the 327 with 2 4bbl carbs with a 4 speed I put in my 1955 210 2door hot rod.
I immediately put this car into a barn on my brothers ranch in Eastern Oregon where it lived until 3 years ago when it moved to the lean to on my shop in Halfway.
I'm ready to do the rolling frame. I have almost all the parts but will wait till I get a 265 block or engine with the correct date code and F56F or F56G stamp code so I can build a correct restored engine for it.
I have posted a classified ad on this forum.

    56Nomad.JPG
    This is my 1956 Nomad,
I bought it in 1985 for $300 in this condition it went into the barn in Eastern Oregon where it lived until 3 years ago when it moved to the lean to on my shop in Halfway. The stock engine and powerglide are sitting in the for front of the pic you can see the carb.
It will live here till possibly next year after I finish my Pickup or get in line behind the 1955 210 which may go into restoration next.

    79FordPainted.JPG
This my 1979 Ford F100 that is almost completely restored and is near stock with a 302cid V8 with a 4 speed.
I have had this for 12 years and recently had it painted.

    87FordWax.JPG
This is my fathers truck a 1987 Ford F250 with 300cid with a 4 speed. He passed away about 5 years ago so I had it repainted and the bench seat reupholstered.
It has 250,000 miles and is still a great truck and is my main hauler and trailer puller.

I have some other Chevys that I don't have pics handy.
    I have a 1955 210 2 door sedan 327 2 4bbl with 4 speed.
I have a 1955 Sedan Delivery unrestored I found in the forest during work and the guy gave it to me.
I have a 1956 210 4door 210 Hardtop unrestored I found it in a wrecking yard and bought if for $50 no engine, trans

I have several other cars that are not Chevys.
I have a 1972 Volvo P1800ES a car I call my European Nomad. In Seattle at my Nephew's for now.
    I have a couple of 1990 Eagle Talon TSI's

I have some other farm trucks but will not mention them here they are not real interesting.
I have all the cars I have ever wanted except for one. I would love to have a 1956 Chevy Convertible maybe someday who knows.
I have been fortunate over the years to have a place to store all my collections till I could retire and start working on them. I have lots of parts people have given me or have bought. They live here pretty happily in the dry (around 12" of precip per year most as snow) climate.

Hope folks enjoy this introduction. Probably lots more to share later. I look forward to discussions with folks as I try to get these all done.

    Thanks

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by a USFS Window Sedan Delivery.
I have driven many that might fit the bill. I grew up in the Forest Service and on our district there was actually a 1956 Chevrolet sedan delivery in those days the FS paint color was close to British racing green.
I have driven many old panel trucks, I even owned a Surplussed USFS 1964 Dodge panel we called it the "hoopie", The FS had lots of Chevy Suburbans. I have driven many of them.

Hope that is a pretty good answer.

    Thanks

Taildraggerdriver: I was referring to the '55-56-57 Sedan Deliveries purchased by the US Forestry Service back in the fifties (your time may have been later than that?).. They purchased a number of them that had the SD single tailgate, but with windows in the sides rather than sheet metal (as most SDs had). They make very neat vehicles... and they are pretty rare... There were a couple of them shown in the movie "north by northwest" back in the late fifties...
