You, or the stock market in general, could support any half day move the market might have made with that sideways explanation.

The market dropped - because of what's said in the yahoo article.
The market was unchanged - because of what's said in the yahoo article.
The market rose - because of what's said in the yahoo article.

The reason for this is that all those conclusions are based on your viewpoint before midday yesterday.

Maybe a better question for this week is have you moved from equities to cash yet and which ones? Gotta take care of the old money first. Then make some new money to invest. Me, I'm not generating a lot of new money here if equities are down.

It's just crazy what's going on. I was up big this morning, only to see it all evaporate and post another big loss. What new money?

Social Security sent me a letter this week and said I was going to get 2.8% more next year. I guess that's my "new money". I figured I'd spend it on lunch, not the stock market.

Last time I got such a letter from SS that I was getting a tiny raise, I then got notice that Medicare Part II was going up the same $$$ amount, so I got NOTHING new in my check...

You're right, the two prior years I got letters saying Medicare was going up but no SS raise, so my checks went down. But I'm getting a double bonus now, they were basing my Medicare deduction on my income when I was working, they've now adjusted that too. But it's still not a lot of "new money".

Every day I think this market is going to turn around, and every day I lose tens of thousands more. This happened to me in 2000 and again in 2009. Is it an every 9 year thing? I'm back to where I was 2 years go. It's all happened so fast that I don't know what to do...still holding but wishing I had not.

    CN-

There is/was nowhere to go. Thats because the triggers in this market decline are not normal. Low unemployment. Low inflation. Great corporate earnings. The subtle impact are the large institutional investors, but they are always manipulating the markets. This mess is the Prez. I fully diversified after the correction in March. The portfolio had the right amount of equity exposure as well as fixed income. It was a custom built growth and income portfolio. And I have gotten destroyed.

    Today's decline? Government shutdown stupidity.

Until someone takes the cell phone away from the Prez, this is what we get.
