    Anniversary

37 years ago today my wife bought her copper '56 convertible. She was a young, single mom and didn't even have a car. So she bought her a good used car.

She didn't get me until the next year.

I apologize, I miss-spoke. I said she didn't have a car. I meant she did not have a car to drive. She had black '56 Chevy Convertible, but it was not running. So she bought her copper one. She still has both cars. Hopefully I will get her copper one finished this year so she can start enjoying it again.

She and her first husband had bought and restored/modified two '56 Chevys. When they would first get them they would both drive them. But after they were restored he didn't want her to drive them because they were "show cars". In 1978, after they sold them, they were searching for the next project and found a black '56 convertible that needed restored. She told him when they bought it that it would be her car so she could drive it after it was restored. One day she came home from work he was on the phone ordering a blower for the car. She said she didn't want a blower or a show car. She wanted a nice driver she could drive on weekends. They had a big argument and he told her if he couldn't build a show car he wasn't going to build it. So it sat in the garage. They got a divorce a couple of years later. She got the convertible.

In 1981 she and I were dating. She asked me to restore her car. I told her I was too busy with my job. We had a friend who had his sierra gold/adobe beige convertible for sale and she bought it. We got married in late 1982. We have been cruising in that car for all these years and we wore it out. So I took it all apart and am redoing everything.

So the black one has been sitting in the garage since she bought it 41 years ago. It was mostly disassembled with parts inside the interior and trunk. A few years ago I put it back together just to see what we had. It is a complete restorable car. If my health and finances hold out, maybe I will get around to redoing it so she can finally get to drive it.
