    Driveshaft Question

Since we are putting a 700R4 in my wife's car we need a shorter drive shaft. I used the original on another project because I thought I had another driveshaft to shorten. When I dug it out I realized the driveshaft is 2 1/2 inches while the original one was 3 inches. This one was in a 70 Nova. Does that make a difference in strength? We are not going to be drag racing but we are running over 350 HP. Or do I need to find another one?

Yes it does make a difference in strength and stiffness, but how much do you need?

If it worked in a 70 Nova, why wouldn't it work in a 56 Chevy? Smaller diameter with same wall thickness would make it "weaker". A thicker wall would improve the strength some. It wouldn't be hard to calculate the difference if you knew the dimensions.
