55 Chevy axles

Whats the trick to getting the axles back into my 55?I put a 57 3:36 Pumkin in & couldnt get either axle to go back in so I pulled the pumkin back out & I still cant get the axles to go back in.The bearing must not be lining up with the race?

Now that the pumpkin is out can you put the axles into the side gears?

Yep did that soon as I pulled the pumkin back out to verify that wasnt the problem.Its gotta be the bearings not lining up close enuf to get started cuz its hard to see behind the cover over it.

That should be a ball bearing, how hard did they come out? and did you check to see if the axle bearing was damaged because they had to be pressed on and off as a unit. Hope this helps.
