Just got in the final sample before production on the Nomad/Wagon Tailgate striker. again these are CNC machined out of stainless. they are a lot beefier then the originals, and as a result, wont bend like the originals did if you slammed the tailgate. These are machine finish, i will post pictures of a polished finish later. very happy with the way these came out. they really scream quality and toughness. the originals were stamped/formed, and very rough on the edges, which i never liked.

these should be available for nomads/wagons by late november

That looks like a helluva lot of machining. Have you ever looked into casting of stainless steel?

yes i have, not only is it expensive, but the finish surface is very bumpy and rough. you'll end up machining the casted part anyway just to get a nice surface. i looked at all the different methods with this piece and compared the cost, this was the way to go. when i take a part and determine cost, i also have to factor in polishing since most of my parts are stainless. with casting, there is a ton of more prep work involved to get that surface smooth. machining is so precise that it saves me a lot more time with the DA when prepping the surface to polish. i am also going to look into electro polishing with this piece and see the results. sounds interesting and cost effective, but its all about the final result. if i can do it better with my machine , i will do it that way.

Mike, these broadheads are cast stainless. They sell them for around $35 for 3. They have very fine detail, and no machining is evident except for sharpening. I'm not sure what process they use, but investment casting is cheap and makes really nice parts. I have a friend here who does investment casting and some of his stuff is pretty amazing. Don't know if he can do stainless.

Mike, is your machinist making these one at a time? It seems like he could machine a long bar with the profile in one direction, drill all the holes, cut them to size, and then finish the machining. That would save a ton of time and should cut the cost a lot. Maybe he's already doing that.

yes, we discussed multiple scenarios to cut costs on machining, as I have done with all the machined parts we've made. I got quotes from several different manufacturers and finally was able to work out a deal with one on these strikers, as well as the cable guides in stainless.
