Today I spent most of the day visiting multiple wrecking yards in search of a 6.0 LS Engine for my 57. Finally after 250 miles and at the 5th yard I found what I was looking for,a 2002 6.o from a 2500HD ( I don't care about the extra 80lbs of the steel block) with a 4L80E transmission. I scored the entire liftout package including all belt driven accessories, starter, all wiring and ECU for $1200. I'm quite happy and looking forward to install. :D

Sounds like a very good price. You must be determined to drive 250 miles

I take it the yards are a ways away.

I take it the yards are a ways away. Yep, I double dipped, got to spend the entire day with my dad. 75 miles each way to and from, 100 miles running around. 6:00 am departure 7:00 pm return.

Sounds like a great find but more important is the fun of getting to dig through the yards:D (pack rat reply), Congratulations on your score.

Sounds like fun! Did you get the LQ4 or LQ9?

4.00 in bore blocks (1999–2007)The 6.0 L is a larger truck version of the LS1, with the exception that the blocks were cast of iron, and was designed to bridge the gap between the new small blocks and big blocks in truck applications. There were two version of this engine: the LQ4 and the LQ9, the latter being more performance oriented. Although the block of the 6.0L looks similar to the LS1, they are iron instead of aluminum.

Its an LQ4 but no problem as the main difference between the two is about 1 point of compression and I wanted the bigger bore size for better head flow and the steel block can be over bored bigger as well. I will be changing the camshaft in it and either replacing the heads with a later version of a rectangular port head or porting the 317s that are on it and milling them to the same smaller chamber size. Its really easy to get these engines over the 400hp level and thats really all I want anyway. In the future I may throw a 4" stroke crank in it for some addtional fun but I'm not sure. I plan to drive this car alot so I plan to keep the engine pretty calm easy on the fuel. I'll probably go for the old school look and run a carb style intake like an Edelbrock 29085 with sequential fuel rail style injectors and a throttle body under a conventional style breather.
