Here's a pretty cool Black Widow build including some historical stuff.

There is a complete build here. I didn't know the 283hp/283 heads had 2.02" intake valves. Could that be true? I didn't think the 2.02" valves came out for several years later. http://www.57chevyblackwidow.com/update32.htm

Cnut I dont think any 539 heads left the factory with 2.02s. I have a set now with 1.84s they are not oem. I had a set of 58 770 heads with 1.94 and 1.65s they were not factory either.

Laszlo the 283 cylinder heads had a 1.72 intake and a 1.50 exhaust, i wonder if they used like maybe a 327 with no accessories holes, like the 461X head which was a 1.94 intake and could be taken to a 2.02, there are some other scenarios they could of taken to do this upgrade, this is just one of them, Rick L is pretty sharp with the older cylinder heads i bet he may know of some combos as well, as well as being up on the 283 builds.

Marty, as you know the 327's didn't come out until the early 60's. What struck me is that the author of the site claimed that these heads were "original" Black Widow heads from "51 years ago". In case you didn't read the second link, here's what it says:

"Old Guy Scott" uses the original "Black Widow" heads on his current Monte Carlo dirt car. Photo #294 shows him removing heads to use on the "Black Widow" build. Photo 295 shows the casting #3731539, this is the 1957 283 HP head. The date code is #J286. This means they were manufactured on October 28, 1956, these are genuine "black Widow" heads.
Photo #296 shows the large spring retainer and dual valve springs, you can also see screw in rocker studs. Photo #297 points out the huge 2.02 valves, quite remarkable for fifty one years ago. "Old Guy Scott" says they are still the best... and uses them to this day. Photo #298 shows a high performance 350 manifold needing to be port matched larger to fit up with the "black Widow" heads. This of course is the dirt car setup. Photo #299 points out the high heat aluminum paint used on the super thin head gaskets for the dirt track car.
It's good knowing original heads will return to the "Black Widow" as they were fifty one years ago.

Those valves are so big they hang over the edge of the head surface, I am certian this is not factory or even done by a reputable machinist.

I understand those heads are a cobbled up mess, look at the valves hanging below the head surface.

As Cnut stated the 2.02 came out with the 327, this in the artical guy is just stupid. I suppose ots possible that Zorro or Smokey installed a set of 2.02s in a SBC prior to 62, but I bet they did it better.
