My 55 and 56 both have manual disk brakes however, the 56 stops faster. They both have 1 inch bore masters Chevy truck on 56 and Vette on 55. The 56 stopped better when it had 9.5 Chevelle drums, now that it has 57 Olds 11 inch its even better. My 55 has the same 9.5 Chevelle/Camaro drums that the 56 used to run. The biggest difference I can see is the 55 conversion which came with the car has metric calipers. Is there a big bore caliper out there that will bolt on my 55.

Do you know the year of the vette caliper you are using now?

All the basic conversion kits use the 69-72 Chevelle rotor, but some use the metric caliper and some use the Chevelle (D52) caliper. The bracket supplied determines which caliper must be used, the brackets are different. So if you want to swap calipers you need to swap brackets also.

The other thing you can do, and more practical, is to get some big bore metric calipers. Several places sell them, but the only one that comes to mind is Speedway Motors. Google should find you more.

Chevelle calipers are 2 15/16" piston, metric uses 2 1/2" piston while the larger bore aftermarket version called big bore increase to 2 3/4" piston. The Chevelle caliper is the way to go. I guess the big bore gets you close without having to buy new brackets also. You didn't really say which calipers are on the 56?

I did a search and Speedway is $59.99 each, while this Ebay ad is the cheapest i could find anywhere at $89/pair.

The 56 has CCI brackets with rebuilt 70 Chevelle calipers from NAPA and brake hoses off a 74 Camaro. I think the thing to do is buy D52 brackets. Ronnie burnede me again. Everything that he bought or started on the 55 is crap and I have had to redo it.
