My brother in law had a 71 Chevy truck that had belonged to his dad, who bought it in 73.

After he got it, he pulled the 350 and had it rebuilt with a 400 crank making it a 383, and pumped it up quite a bit. He enjoyed driving the truck and even had my shop do all the body work and put it in primer.
Coming home from work one day, he was ran off the road, Hit and run, and the truck did a 180 and jumped a small hill backwards, into a fence. It was totaled!!! He asked me what to do.
I knew he also had a 65 Impala that had a broken Crank, so i suggested pulling the 383 and dropping it in the Impala.

He said yes!!!

We took the truck and pulled 383/ TH350 out , then pulled the broken 230 six banger/ 3 speed out of the car, and put it in.

He may no longer have the truck he knew all his life, but the heart of it lives in his Impala.

When it landed it was on a large post that tweaked the frame pretty bad. Everything looked much worse underneath!!

Frames can be fixed or replaced and are available cheap.
