Advice wanted on frame mods and hitch design to pull 4000 lb trailer with 550 lbs tongue using equalizer system

Seems like there should be an off-the-shelf hitch that would work.

What you're going to need is to reinforce the rear crossmember, it's simply too weak and thin. Then you're going to need another crossmember forward of that so that the two crossmembers handle the bending load from the tongue weight. That second crossmember is going to have to have a drop in it to clear the gas tank. You have other obstacles like the tailpipes and spare well to deal with too. After you have two crossmembers, just get a hitch kit with receiver tube, and add a longitudinal member tiying both crossmembers and connecting to the receiver tube.

And yes, probably someone has already done and sells it, but I don't know where.

I think the side rails (main frame rails) are fine, it's just the rear crossmember that's too light. Plus you need the second one.
