View Full Version : 57 Convertible Tail lights

New to this site and working on my first frame off restoration. I am trying to install all of my trim, bumpers, etc before I move to the next step in my restoration. Does anyone know how much or if any at all that the rear taillights, gas door, and other trim on the rear fins are suppose to be flush with the outer fender and trunk side of the car or do they have an over hang. I had new rear quarters installed and tailpan extentions so I am sure things are off a bit. At this point the taillights, overhang 3/8" to 1/2" to the inside of the car and between 1/4" or 3/8" to the outside. I have gone through my picts. from the teardown phase and I have none showing this close up of a a view of this area. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like the quarter was put on wrong. The tail lights and trim should be flush with the quarter. Thank you Clint. I was thinking the quarters may have been installed wrong and it sounds like they were. I am thinking that I should have taken it slow and did this work myself. I went with the recommendation from a coworker and had this place install new quarters/tail pan/tail pan extensions and trunk floor and I keep finding issues with the work. Leason leaned.

Looking at your second picture it appears that the middle of the tail light housing on the trunk side sticks out some. Is that true or are they flush on all sides? Greg
