I just use my die grinder with a carbide burr.

I didn't know there was a "skip proof" type. I use the other and I do have to use a punch, punched a little deep to keep the cutter from skipping. I bet that skip proof is kind of expensive.

I've been using a Wivco bit. Similar to the Blair. You can renew the pilot bit, and you can sharpen the primary bit by flat grinding or belt sanding. You can probably do this with the Blair also, don't know for sure.

I bought mine at autobodystore.com.

Personally I can't imagine using a die grinder and carbide burr if I was trying to save one of the panels being separated - relative to a cutter made for the job.

I don't like the "mini hole saw" bits as they don't usually have a decent pilot, they can't be sharpened, and they can skip. The Blair and Wivco won't skip.

I've done it a million times....for me it's "made for the job". ;)

It's easy to save the "back" panel, harder to save the "front" one without making a big hole.
