Looking good smooth. Looks like you're getting plenty of practice welding. I'll bet your customer is paying you more to make a part than the reproduction part would cost. I guess that's his choice, as long as he understands the tradeoff.

smooth 56
05-02-2013, 01:57 PM
Yea chevy I try to tell him but he won't listen but it just makes my bank account look better.:!: Yep been getting plenty of practice in the welding field. Never dreamed that I would end up with 2 build a body's in a row lol.

The only support I know of is the step support that is behind the vertical part of the step and the step itself has a brace that runs the length of the step.
The rocker does not have a support and when I did mine I bought the panel that came with the step and the rocker and the step brace was already attached.

smooth 56
05-28-2013, 06:49 AM
Bam I don't think I'm going to do to much to the body just make the fire wall smooth.Sure wish that I could get him to change the grill though he love's the GMC grill.Myself I would put the chevy grill back in they just look better to me.

Well buddy I kind of disagree with your there. The chevy grill may look better to most people because they are more common. But the GMC was the higher end truck back in the day so I would use the GMC grill for two reason. 1. Its a GMC and 2. To be different from all the carbon copy trucks out there.lol I kind of like all that chrome and monstrous grill myself.

He most likely got it from flickr. Yeah the guy that owns that truck is one of my closest friends. I done the c-notches on that truck a couple of months back because he wants it lower. The stance on that truck in the pic is a Mustang 2 unit without drop spindles and the mono leaf springs on the rear. He is now doing a flip kit with drop spindles to get it lower. He also relocated his springs inside the frame that why he is able to get those massive Mickey Thompson's on there.

09-02-2013, 05:26 AM
Well it's been a long time since I have done a update. The owner bought some land and had me stop work for a while, now he has set me loose again. Don't have any pic's this time my camera let me down just haven't got another yet. So I will try to tell you what I have done. Had some rust above the door around the drip rail cut that out and welded new in. It had been shot above the bed in the belt line I have cut that out and put new in,finished welding all the seam's that I missed that's about all for now. Man some thing's are hard to talk about with out pic's got to get a new camera.

I didn't until I started on this one but now I think there cool. There a little harder to build than the chevy because the part's are harder to find kind of like building a 56. They do not make all the part's for them.

Hey Smooth that firewall looks much better with the lip cut off doesn't it. I shaved mine also. It gives it a smoother look. I also had to so all the same repairs to the interior roof section. I cut mine completely out did all the repairs and welded it back in. That way I could do the hammer and dolly work on the panel.lol I know its over kill but hey I'm completely nuts anyway.lol

Everything is looking great buddy.

smooth 56
09-05-2013, 07:07 AM

Yeah thats been my experience with repop panels also. Man I just said forget and saved the oem stuff because the repop panels were such a headache. Are these all your cars/trucks? I thought at one time you mentioned you were working on customer cars?
I use to hate that GMC front end but it grew on me too, but then I use to hate lots of cars that I love now, go figure.
