Does a 90's LT1-LT4 require more firewall clearance than a traditional SBC? I know the block and head castings are the same/similar, but I recall hearing about some additional interference behind the heads. How far forward do you have to put the engine to clear the firewall?

LT1 and Lt4 have steam lines that attach to the back of the heads with a banjo fitting. That's what decreases the clearance compared to a traditional SBC.

Usually it's recommended that the engine should be mounted 3/4" forward to help with this. I think the bolt heads would clear on most cars without moving the engine forward but then you couldn't remove the banjo bolts without pulling the engine off its mounts.

Thaks Rick, I remembered something like that. We put all our SBC engines 3/4" forward. I just wanted to make sure it would clear with the LT engines.

LT-1, LT-4? You got to be like your buddy Otis and buy a 725hp-572! I was just reading a post that he bought one of those new GM crate engines, they're around $18K I think. Life must be good taking in that sponsor money, won't be long before he see's the light and has his sheep herd start contributing.

This is for a customer C4 frame, not my car. My Nomad has a Ramjet 502 in it. ;)

I know, I just thought I take a little dig:p Plus I find the Otis thing amusing.
