Started this current build around 9 years ago, and it's evolved considerably over the course of the build. I did more mods than I originally intended to do, and got a lot pickier about the results.

Here's some recent shots.....

Why are my pictures cropped on the right? I think the borders of this site should be removed in the forums. They sure take up a lot of space.

I got some more done the past few days. Got the body blocked and in final primer all the way back to the rear wheels. I blocked across all the door gaps. All that's left is blocking the high build around the taillights and tailgate and it will almost be ready for paint.

Is there any way to upload pics from your computer, or do they have to be hosted? Any way to address the cropping on the right side?

Marty, that's my plan. I'm trying to get my shop addition finished before I paint, though. I REFUSE to paint it and put it back in the shop where we do the chassis work.

Here's the latest pic....

Can someone fix this site so it doesn't crop pictures like this? How do you prevent this from happening? What's the purpose of the large blue borders on the sides of the page?

Marty, I am going to use them for a while, but who knows how long. I bought them long ago (they weren't cheap) and now I'm not sure I want them long term. They fit ok, but I'd like just a tad more backspacing in front if I can get it, and a lot less in the rear. I have room for a 335 or 345 tire and the ones on the car currently are 295s. I have about 1 1/2" to the fenderwell and some more room inboard. But I'm not sure I want that big of a tire on the rear. Fronts are 245s and they fit well. Also, the fronts are 17" and the rears are 18". I may go 18s all around with some custom wheels. We'll see after paint.

Hi Chevynut,

No worries; we're still correcting small issues from the port of PHPBB to vBulletin. We should have everything corrected in a day or two. If you (or any other user) have bug reports please email webmaster@trifivechevys.com and we'll add them to our shrinking list.

Great Nomad by the way!

Just sanded the entire back end including taillights, tailgate opening, and tailpan...lotsa "tails". Applied what I think is my last coat of Slicksand so I'll sand it tomorrow, and hopefully shoot the K36. Then I'll install the tailgate and liftgate and check for final fitment.

After that, INTERIOR construction. I have to install front 3-point harnesses, rear seatbelts, then build a rear seat structure and a full-length console.

I plan to roll the car outdoors after it's all together and get some good pics. :)

The color I was trying to remember on my 40 Ford was Ford pinto..Sun Burst..or I think. Came on a lot of pintos in the 70's.

Don't know if I could put a "Pinto" color on my Nomad. :D

I'm still looking at colors but have a few that I like pretty well. I plan to narrow it down then buy a few ounces of 3-4 colors and spray them to see which I like the best.

Got the rest of the blocking and primering done today, and it's all in final primer. Got the tailgate, taillights, and rear bumper back on and will roll it outside tomorrow for a photo shoot. :)

Will post more pics soon.

Pushed the car out for the first time in months! The tailgate gaps are better than they look here, since there's a shadow on the driver's side and the tailgate is sitting too far inboard at the top (no bumpers installed). Here's some new pics:

Some more....I eliminated the 56 tailight seals. The taillights have about a 1/32" gap all the way around, and don't touch the body anywhere except at the mounting screws. ;)

The past week I finished re-fitting my tailgate with some new hinges, and worked on finishing up my front seat mounts. I'm using 2000 Eldorado bucket seats and I had to replace a motor in the driver's seat. I bought a spare seat frame a couple years ago so I had some spare motors. Don't have any more pics yet, but may post a couple of the seat mounts when I finish them.

That's looking killer so it is. Love the work you did in prepping the body so well, and totally dig that shroud you put across the rad section. Can't wait to see it all painted up and coming back to life, but may need a new drool blanket when those pictures are posted. Keep up the great work Laszlo. It's the nicest 56 Nomad I have ever seen.

Thanks Graeme, it's been a lot of work. I've done 100% of the work on it myself so far, and I'm really feeling weird about letting anyone else work on it. But paint and interior are two things I probably won't attempt myself. I may paint the frame, and maybe even the underside, cowl, firewall, and such. But not the body. I think I have 2-3 paint booths lined up when I need one, and one painter even offered to paint it for me. He's done several cars that ended up in magazines, but I have never seen them in person. Still don't know who's going to do the interior, and I don't know of any higher end shops here in CO.

Thanks Bam55, I appreciate the feedback from you guys. It makes it feel worthwhile to put all this time and effort into it, agonizing over the little details.

I got the seat mounts finished this evening, but didn't get any pics because I had to come in for dinner. Tomorrow I'll shoot some and get the seats mounted. Then I may start working on heli-coiling my liftgate so I can get it off to chroming soon.

I have a drawing I made of the cross-section of my interior, and now I need to figure out how to build a console and rear seat structure. Once I get my seats mounted, I can install my shifter, sit in the seat, and see where my console armrest should sit...then go from there.

Good night y'all!! :)

Got the seat mounts bolted in, seats installed and adjusted, and shifter and handle installed. I had to completely disassemble the Hurst shifter to get the serrations on the correct side for the handle to work. The problem was, it was assembled with TORX screws, so I went and got a new TORX driver set. It did nothing but strip the damned screws trying to remove them, so I had to drill them out!!! This was a brand new Hurst Billet Plus shifter. After drilling out 3 of the screws, I cleaned every part, lubed the whole thing again with synthetic grease, and re-assembed it with the lever flipped 180 degrees. Now the handle bolts on correctly.

Also got some more work done on my console design. It will be full length, all the way back to behind the rear seats. I have a center box out of a Lexus that I'm probably going to integrate into it because it's a cool piece with a sliding top tray.

Here's some pics of the seat mounts and seats installed. The shifter position feels perfect.

Thanks Marty, I'm trying to figure out how to build a mockup of my console, and what to make the final version out of. I'm leaning toward aluminum or wood and fiberglass, depending on how much curvature I want it to have. A basic wood (MDF) structure and some foam and fiberglass sculpting would make it a lot easier to add some cool lines. I am not hung up on having everything out of steel like some guys are.

I have a console profile sorta designed, but still need to design a top view and add some features to it. I plan to bring in some of the exterior color in the console, and also the two interior upholstery colors. I'm thinking a light beige or cream leather interior with taupe seatbelts and accents, or maybe bring in some dark gray or charcoal for the seatbelts and accent color. But I have to consider the carpet color too.

Probably going to start building the rear seat structure soon.

Looks good Laszlo. I built a template for my console from cardboard then got looking around and ended up building it out of the arches of a new fender repair panel for a 57. I'll be covering it in probably leather after I find some cup holders and some more modifications. Keep at it...gl.

In addition to my radiator shops closing I have also lost my interior shop, this is one item I to farm out. I do not think the EPA got the interior guy.

Josh, if you have a pic or 2 of that console, we'd all appreciate a look at it. I am considering what I want to build for a center console for my 57 nomad, and dont' want any square corners. Would rather use somethign contoured just like you described. (Sorry to pone your thread here Laszlo, but he got me curious)

So what is the status of your frame?
Are you going to paint the top coat on the frame?
Is body coming off frame for top coat?
