Well after a long time, finally fired up the new engine today. Good oil pressure, good temp.
Tomorrow set timing and adjust carb.
FINALLY!
I do have a distributor question. I got #1 cylinder at TDC, dropped in the distributor on approximately #1 wire position. engine fired right up, but advanced the distributor until the vac adv. hit the intake. Seems I was off about on tooth. Normally I pull the distributor, reach in with a long screwdrive and turn the oil pump key way a little and drop the dist back in. I was reading another post that said that was unnecessary, as the distributor gear is engaged even thought the shaft hasn't dropped into the oil pump key way and just bump the started until the distributor drops in.
So, since I've never tried that and it would certainly be easier, is that post correct?
Thanks for your comments...
