just bought a 56 chevy kind of a old hotrod it has a 454 that was bored out .030 what would the cubit inch displacement be, thinging about putting displacement numbers on the front fenders.------------Challenged

A stock 454 has a 4" stroke and a 4.25" bore. The displacement is actually 453.96 cubic inches. :) With a .030" overbore the displacement is 460.39 cubic inches.

And a .060" over 454 computes to 466.87, but everyone calls it a 468. There's some other traditional overbores that are rounded off in an odd manner also.

Thanks for the reply. will post 460 on front fenders, nephew does letering in creative way want my 56-210-2dr-thirty year old black laquer paint kinda used. want it to look the part chrome frt wheel chrome reverse on back. bucket seats tach on dash. no frt bumper. car was new when I was 15 years old.-----------------Challenged

Thanks Rick and Cnut for confirming what I thought, why do they always call them 462 and 468, I have had dumbasses debate this in the past. Getting to where I dont enjoyresponding any more.

To calculate the displacement accurately, use this formula:

for one cylinder D= 3.1416 x bore x bore /4 x stroke or D =.7854 x bore x bore x stroke

Then multiply that by the number of cylinders.
