Anyone know of a commercially available inside bottom -panel for rust repair? Or perhaps a part of an existing tailgate that would work ?

Thanks.

Ever the optimist--Max!

Run-em, I don't think that part is re-produced, unfortunately. I have a spare gate I bought that I'd like to fix someday. They make the outer skins, but I have never seen the inside part. Even just the lower 4" or so would really help.

Thanks, Laszlo. Kinda knew that. But does anyone have a suggestion on maybe what tailgate/ doorjamb to search out in the salvage yards? It is gonna be kinda hard to lug the existing lower gate thru the yards looking for a match.....I fell on the ice & am kinda one armed at present.

Madmooks (Mike) was going to try and re-pop the part to do this job, but his deal fell through.

I don't think you'll find anything that's even a close match. The closest thing might be the bottom of a 55-57 2-door wagon tailgate, but they're hard to find too.

It sounds like someone is making a complete repop tailgate, but it's going to be expensive.

If you haven't seen it yet, take a look at Robert's work...it may help give you some ideas. http://allmetalshaping.com/showthread.php?t=2154

I am in the middle of trying to recreate most of the inner panel including the bottom section. My first attempt at sheet metal fab of body panels. So far so good but I have a long way to go. Most of my tailgate is rotted top sides and bottom. Thank goodness they do re-pop the outter skin.

Bought the bottom center section from Randy @ Quality Auto Repair....it is a good piece. Now I just have to get the lower corners done.

Here is a picture Randy sent me of the parts he makes. I chose not to use them because they do have the bead in them like the original has.

Sid, Randy quoted me 125 for side piece & 150 for top piece. I did not need bottom but I can only assume the bottom is similar priced. The bottom piece he builds is shown in the picture I posted. Hope that helps
