Welcome to the site. Are you talking about the gravel shields on the front fender? Do you have a pic of the hole you're referring to?

You can see the round hole in the gravel shield under the radiator. It seems too big to be a hole for a drain hose and there is already a hole for a drain hose next to it.

I think that hole is for the radiator drain but it does look too big for that. Maybe someone cut it out larger.

The hole is factory stamped on six and V8 cars

56 and 57 have that hole too. If it's not for the radiator drain I have no idea what it's for. I cut mine out and filled it all the way across the frame.

It's for draining the radiator.

The big hole is to drain the 6 cylinder and the small hole is to drain the V8.

The V8 radiator is behind the radiator support. The drain cock has a small hose to extend it past the radiator support and the hose goes into the small hole.

The large hole is directly under the 6 cylinder radiator drain cock and it drains just fine without a hose.

By design the hole in front is to drain, not only the radiator but any water entering that area. In a heavy rain water enters thru the grill and must exit hence a large drain.
