I hope I am doing this correctly...just wanted to attach a few pics on my progress so far. I have all my interior trim painted and have just finished reupholstering my seats. I was concerned doing the seats myself but I am pleased with how they turned out. If hurricane Arthur is not to bad tonight I plan on going over to my friends paint/body shop and work on the little remaining body work. Hopefully He will have the painting completed in the near future.

Looking good. When you say doing upholstery yourself, do you mean you sewed it or just installing it? Very nice either way. I never do upholstery myself.

Thanks - but no sewing by me :) I bought my complete interior including headliner and carpeting from Ciadella's and I am doing the installation myself.

Thanks guys - I am going to paint it GM/Chevy color called "Crystal Claret", a deep Cherry Red metallic. It is the color you see on my interior trim pieces above.

Smooth 56 - If you go down about 5 thread entries below this one after you select "Nomads" you will see my previous thread "My 55 Nomad is under construction" which I first posted a couple months ago of my Nomad pics in gray primer. We will be finishing up a little more body work and hopefully will be painting it in the next couple weeks or so....I am looking forward to that day and will post some pics of the paint job then.

I think that color is going to look great on it. Didn't see the other thread but have now lol. Looks like it wont be to long before you will be driving. Keep up the good work.

Well, a bit more progress.....should have the rest of the body painted and all completed by next week :) This "LONG" body and paint process sure can test a man's patience. It's only been going on since February ..... :) funny though, time seems to be flying.

Curious about your painting process. Why are you painting it a little at a time. I thought you should paint metallic paints all at once. I assume it's going to be all one color?

Troberts
08-28-2014, 02:02 PM
Yea it's all going to be the same color but here's the thing. My friend Walt who has been owning and running a body shop forever.....is doing this for me for practically nothing. His wife worked for me here in our county government for many years so we are good friends. He is doing this as he can "work it in" and he wanted to just paint the top yesterday, it was late in the day, and do the rest of the body early next week cause it worked better with his current workload....and we do have a little more undercoating under the rear fenders to do as well. Oh well, it's worth it since these paint jobs can be "very expensive".

Looks great troberts! One reason I ask is that I'm thinking of doing mine similarly, except in pieces. I was considering painting the bottom and the cowl on a rotisserie along with the edges and inside of the doors, tailgate, hood and fenders at that time. Then I'd put the body on the frame, line up the tailgate, doors, hood, and fenders close to the body on some sort of racks, and paint the rest of the car in one shot. I am just not convinced I can get the quality of paint job I want with the car assembled. I need to talk to my painter about how to do this.

Troberts
08-29-2014, 01:22 PM
Thanks Chevynut - yea, what Walt decided as he worked it into his schedule was to first paint all the "edges" of the fenders, doors, hood and tailgate and the door and tailgate jams at the same time. Then he just did the top and so Tuesday we should finish with the rest of the body....that will be a great day!!! So make sure you post some pics when you get yours painted....would love to see it.

Thanks guys,

the color is:Crystal Claret, Two Coat Pearl Metallic - Chevrolet 2008 - 2015
Cod Che08:89 P 06/2014
Voc 705.3 g/l

Chevynut - For some reason some of my pics come over upside down, don't know why. When some do that I even try to turn them upside down before I upload them thinking it will flip them right side up......didn't work sometimes, sometimes it did??? What the heck..... :)

Looking real good. That's a good color choice for a 55 Nomad. I would be tempted to two tone the roof white possibly

Well I have about finished the wiring install and put in the rear curved glass, only after the driver side cracked on the first one....a real bummer! My new rear bumper just arrived yesterday so I will only a new grill to pretty much have all new chrome....well it's on to the sliding windows, headliner then winshield etc. I do fear the install of the power windows, never tackled that before!!!

Just recently finished the side glass install and am getting close to finishing up under the hood. Now I am getting ready to install the headliner which is gray along with the rest of the interior. I will be getting a new air cleaner, the one on there now is just to keep trash out of the new carb...I would like to have a set up like this last photo...
Happy New Year Nomaders!

Well, the headliner was quite the job, but I got it installed! And I am almost finished with the cargo area. I decided not to spend the big bucks on new chrome for the cargo area. So I went to Lowe's and bought $40.00 worth of angle aluminum, made my own border's and I am happy with how it is turning out....:)

Thanks guys - I have installed most of the interior trim molding and will be putting in the carpet in the next few days. I had to order the piece for under the rear seat from Ciadellas and it just came in today...my biggest concern is trying to install the power windows and getting them to work "correctly"! And getting the Heat/AC unit working as well...

Looks great Troberts. Why does the interior color look so different from one pic to the next? Love that waffle pattern.

Troberts
05-31-2015, 09:24 AM
Thanks - When I ordered my interior from Ciadellas they said they could keep the original waffle pattern just like from the factory, I thought it was a good idea so I went with it.
The differnce in the pics colors - I think it's just because of the lighting in my garage and the shot of the cargo area is with the garage door up and without a work light. The pic of the rear seat and inside was with a work light and it does look more natural to the actual colors....

http://www.trifivechevys.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4580&stc=1Well I just backed her out of the garage on her "own power" to wash off all that garage dust! I have all the power window parts prepped and ready for install.....aand I can finally see the light at the end of that long tunnel! Just wanted to also say many thanks to all you guys that have taken your time to respond and answered all my questions while building my Nomad. Your knowledge and expertise has been greatly appreciated!!!

Hey Chevynut - just finished installing the power windows and it was a piece of cake! And I have my AC/HT all ready except for the hose connections to the evaporator. :) For anyone else planning to install PW you might find this diagram helpful. Hope to see some of you at the nationals in BG next month....Thanks for all the help guys....

Though not quite finished with the install, thought I would see if I could build a little console since I had enough material left over from the interior. Thought it would be a good place for the gauges and of course we have to have "cup holders".... :)

Looks great Troberts. Are you driving it yet?

Troberts
09-01-2015, 03:04 PM
Yes I am finally taking it out on the road some as I am working out a few "bugs" which I expected to show up. Things like a little oil is leaking around the dip stick and I have some rear brake issues I will be resolving tomorrow. It does have a pretty nice ride "on the highway" with just having installed new shocks and rear leaf springs. I can tell thought that I am going to have to at least put front and rear sway bars on it.... :) and I think I will soon be adding disc brakes on the rear as well. Your work on yours is looking great!

Maybe 55 and 57, but 56's MUST be 2-tone to show off that beautiful BelAir trim. ;) ;)
