Hello, my 56 chevy now has the 265 that I was going to rebuild but machine shop said the 265 wasn't any good. I have a 1964 283 I was thing about rebuilding and droping in the 56. I still wanted to use the 56 powerglide because it still works great. The block has the front engine mounting holes by the timing chain cover like the 265. Will the older powerglide work with the newer 283? The starter was different on the 283 block but I was going to use the old starter off the 56. Thanks for any help,Beaver

Everything should bolt together just fine. I'm not sure about the starter issue, but one of the starters you have should work.
