    pitman arm removal

how do i remove the pitman arm ( stearing arm) from the stearing box. the box is still in the car. i tried a gear puller but it kept slipping off. then i tried a fork but that did not look like a good idea. any suggestions. thank you

I've taken them off with a gear puller without too much difficulty. You might try a little penetrating oil and heat, but not too hot.

I used lots of penetrating Fluid , a Autozone pitman arm puller, Breaker bar & a BFH . Spray fluid liberally and often . Lube the threads on the puller.Whack the breaker bar with a BFH, Lather , rinse & repeat . Use eye protection when combining breaker bar with BFH should fall right off

Don't hit the breaker with a hammer if you don't have to - or use an impact if you don't have to - if you use a Chinese pitman arm puller, it will break. On the other hand a Chinese made puller is so cheap relative to a good one, you might as well try it unless you're going to do the job a lot.

Whatever brand puller use lots of anti seize on puller threads, especially if air tools get involved.

The steering box and shaft comes out straight down and forward so I would say you can remove it with the engine in place.

Never could call an engine a "motor". To me, "motors" have wires and you plug them in.

What about a Boat Motor, Motor Boat! There's about 50 million articles about this topic and I have yet to find one that is definitive!!

"Motor" apparently is a correct term for describing an internal combustion engine, but I have never been able to use that word when referring to a car or aircraft engine. It just sounds weird to me....kinda hick. Airplane motor? Nope. I have called a boat propulsion device a "motor" and that sounds okay for some reason.

A Tesla has a motor....a couple of them.

Like anything else, you can go as far into it as you want to. If it's tight and smooth, replacing the seals might be good enough.

When my oem box leaked I filled it with white grease.
