View Full Version : How do you deal with this?

The hood bar on a 56 has a "V" in the center but the studs in the hood bar are parallel with the centerline of the car. That means they aren't perpendicular to the hood sheetmetal and when you put a nut on the stud, it doesn't sit flat. Not only does it look bad, but it scratches up the paint and bends the sheetmetal. Is there a good way to deal with this problem?
I found some "leveling washers" but they're way too big.

I don't know what angle you need, but have you looked at bevel washers?

I know I may be nitpicky about this, but I think it sucks....

Yeah that's probably what I need. The problem is getting the right diameter (1/4" ID) and the right angle. I may have to fab some up out of SS.

Thanks Nick, I already looked in McMaster Carr first since I thought it was the obvious place to look, and couldn't find anything. I searched on "washers" but nothing in the pics looked like what I needed. Guess I didn't go deep enough.
They say they only correct up to 4 degrees. I'll have to measure to see if that's enough.

Most welcome. You could always slot the bottom unit.

Well I measured the angle at 12 degrees and I saw nothing that would work at that angle so I made my own steel beveled washers. I think this looks a lot better than a stud, washer, and nut anyhow. I'm going to epoxy them in place.
