Need a little info on upgrading head lights on my 57 please. Is orig in all areas except that I just upgraded to an alternator.
Issue was with the gen in it, I up graded to the more powerful Sylvania lamps and after a short period of the time the new lights kept flickering rapidly. I thought the alt upgrade would solve this problem but it didn't. Do I need a new light switch? If so is there a heaver one available? I did run three wires for the alternator upgrade.
Thanks,
Tom

Welcome to the site. Do you have the stock headlamp switch? It has a breaker in it that often causes this problem. The best solution is to put a relay in the circuit, so the relay handles the load and the switch only controls the relay.

It is the original so I will check it out and thanks.
Everything on her is orig other than the alternator and radiator and she works great.
I joined here about two years ago and forgot my password as I didn't use the site a lot :). Just a wealth if information on here,
Tom

As I said above, the best solution is going to be using a relay. The stock wires really are too small to be safe and efficient.

Your stock headlight switch circuit breaker has too low a setting for the new lights, or it's just "tired". As Cnut said, a relay (or relays) is the answer.

I would add a circuit breaker or fuse to the new circuit to protect the wiring and guard against fire.

Another possible problem area is the dimmer switch. You may want to replace it or use a relay for it too.
