Yesterday evening I decided to pull the clock and speaker bezel out of my 55 nomad. I removed the top 2 screws from the bezel then decided I would abort and put them back in and remove it latter. To my surprise the screws would not go back in. The holes in the dash were to large for the sheet metal screws I had just removed. So I decided to go ahead and remove the bezel and clock but when I reached under the dash it was blocked by a large bracket screwed into the bottom edge of the dash. When I pulled the screws out I could move the bracket some and it had what I believe was a part of the wonderbar radio that is in my nomad. It was very difficult to reach the remaining screws in the bezel but I finally managed and the bezel fail to the floor. I then could see this big honking speaker that was attached to the bracket I had loosened. Turns out the top of the speaker bracket has the screw holes that hold the bezel on and also mount the speaker behind the grill. When I quizzed my buddy about his 55 he said the screw holes in the dash itself hold his bezel in place. So I guess the cars with the wonderbar option are different? Anyone else experience this?

All of these cars had the speaker and amplifier behind the right dash hump. I don't know why the wonderbar would be any different.

So do all 1955 and 56 use the speaker bracket to attach the bezel to the dash on top? If so I assume my friends 55 has bigger screws (added latter) so it tightened to the dash itself?

I once read the wonder bar had additional parts under the dash but perhaps that is miss info.

Aren't J-clips used for the top two screws?

I just looked at my Nomad and there is nothing in the holes on the passenger side. I have a radio speaker assembly and it has bars that have threaded holes in them. That's what the bezel is attached to. Mine isn't a Wonderbar. The speedo bezel has the j-clips. They could be added on the passenger side but it looks to me like you'd have to trim the sheetmetal back for them to fit...at least that's the case on my Nomad.

Mine are as Cnut describes also. If I don't put a speaker back in J clips might be easier to add than trying to install the bracket again even if sheet metal has to be trimmed.

Cnut how are you planning to mount speakers in your nomad? I'm considering the access panels in the side walls by the rear seat for my rear speakers but still looking for options at the moment.

Thanks for the info guys.

Rocky, mine are in the doors (Polk Audio 6.5" round) and on my "package tray" (Polk Audio 6x9 triaxials). I'm putting tweeters in the headliner up in the corner next to the sun visors. If I need more I may put them in the rear armrests, but I think this is enough. :)

That sould be plenty for good clean sound. I'm not much on the big boom bass that rattles cars next to you. Very annoying in fact. I was hoping to have the same size 6.5 front and 6x9 rear. I haven't ruled out the door either. To my surprise a previous owner has already done it. I had discovered that the extra hole in my dash next to the clock was a dealer or aftermarket add on for a rear speaker fader. But then I ask myself were would they have put the rear speakers in a nomad. I found out a few weeks latter when I pulled the door panels off for the first time. I had quadriphonic sound system lol.

Last question how to I get the speaker amp out? Glove box hole or does the heater box have to come out?
Thanks in advance.

I have the rear speaker knob on my car, but its just for looks, since the radio itself has a fader. Cool project

JT I too bought a speaker switch and new knob to fill the hole. It want be functional as you have stated.

Thanks!! The nomad project is very solid. I pulled all the interior this past weekend and the rear window channels appear to be route free.
