Had a CNA member email me , telling me he bought some reproduction cable cups from a vendor ( hard to confirm this from the pictures, as he wasn't 100% sure if they were originals or reproductions ) that failed on him. I always tell people the cups can flare open after a while and when it does, your tailgate goes crashing down into the bumper, hitting the guards. Original cups and reproductions are formed from heavy gauge sheetmetal. Ours are machined from billet stainless, giving it strength. I understand that its natural for a consumer to gravitate towards the cheapest price, but in this case, saving 30 bucks could turn into a huge paint/body expense. im not stating that ALL non-madmooks cups are going to ruin your tailgate, im just informing people that it is possible and what happens when it does.

While I got this email I was visiting my dad and I just so happened to bring a pair of our cable cups and ovals to install on his 55 nomad. needless to say after the email I got, I went out into the garage and installed a set. took some pictures.

the customer that emailed me, sent some pictures as well...
