is the plate listed on Danchuk compatible on the 57 wagon? it is the body plate that covers the hinges and runs completely across the opening

That is a bit pricey. IIRC it is made of 14 gauge steel, a pretty stout piece.

does anyone have a link to an exploded view of the body panels for my 57 4 door wagon so I dont end up ordering the wrong components as I begin the rust repairs on my vehicle?

PS. Are your parts *missing* ... from rust? or have they been cut out/removed before?

Note: This part doesn't 'cover' the hinges, it actually supports the hinges, along with the under neath braces and the tailpan itself (which all work together to make the structure strong enough)...

The hinge covers for the Wagon lower tailgate are smaller individual covers; one on each hinge..

on another note what is the best product to use on the drip rail to roof line once I media blast the surface rust loose. there are small cracks in what looks like seam sealer.

Most people put epoxy primer on the bare (but cleaned) metal after blasting. Do your metal work and re-epoxy where necessary, then use the std seam sealer (3M or ?) to seal up any seams on the car before final priming and painting.

The 1957 seam sealer in those drip rails is a lacquer based (single stage) product that is prone to shrinking and thus cracking/checking. Close inspection should show that you have bare steel under those cracks, so yes, now we have water intrusion where it shouldn't be. I'd suggest to first coat the bare steel after media blasting with a good epoxy primer. Once cured, then use a two component (catalyzed) seam sealer, then epoxy primer again. Should be good for another 100 years..

After scraping and blasting my drip rails I sprayed them with PPG DPLF epoxy and used some 2K self-leveling seam sealer on them. It mixes in the tip of the tube and you have to work pretty fast with it. It's a little tricky but turned out nice.

thanks Guys for the quick feed back
I noticed there is no drain hole in the drip rail at the rear radius corners of the rail thus if parked slightly uphill the rails fill with condensation or rain.
Is it a cardinal sin to install them similar to the locations seen in the above photo?

Mine had drain holes from the factory. I think they're needed at least on a Nomad roof. Not sure if a wagon drains better or not. Robert should be able to tell you if a wagon has them.

Sometimes prior bodywork or even thick paint can seal up those holes; take a real close look in the areas pointed out in the thread for the location of the holes... :)

I remember my 57 9 passenger had holes at the back corners. It makes sense, to allow for water to escape. You need them....
