I have a few of them and bought a new one for my Nomad. I'll have to check which ones are suitable. Sounds like you're looking for driver quality?

I checked and I have 3 originals, but two are cracked in the center. I think the un-cracked one is the original from my Nomad which I removed around 40 years ago and put in storage. It has virtually no pits, no cracks, but it does have a small dent in one spot that looks kinda like a BB hit it. It would be an easy fix for a chrome shop. PM me with an offer if you want it. BTW, I also have some really nice original hood bar extensions and parking light panels too...lots of original 56 parts.

Here's a good one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/56-1956-Chevrolet-Front-Chrome-Hood-Bar-Trim-Molding-/311428978679?hash=item48829d17f7:g:RXwAAOSwd0BV1gy T&vxp=mtr

I would buy the new one, by the time you pay for an over priced core and pay a premium to have a good chrome job the new one is much less. Rechroming would have only made sense if you already had a good core.

I think part of this is if you care that it's original. NOS parts are probably nonexistent for the 56 hood bar, or REALLY expensive. A re-chromed original part is the next best thing, if you're trying to build a car to original specs. You can get a new part for somewhere around $200 if you don't care about originality because they're REPRODUCTIONS, not made from the original tooling. I think it's getting hard to find decent original parts for these 60 year old cars.
