CLASSIC INSTRUMENTS

I would give Classic Instruments a call regarding their new Bel Era III package. It looks amazing and for original looks, no one is even close. I have had great luck with mine and their tech support is amazing. Thanks Classic Instruments :-D

Welcome to the site!

Is this an ad for Classic Instruments? If so it should be in the Classifieds section. Are you employed by them?

Personally my opinion at this time is that the Dakota Digital VHX series gauges are the best on the market in terms of great looks and modern technology. They are backlit and use stepper motors like new vehicles, and have some programmability. The VHX pricing looks to be cheaper than CI too.

What do you feel makes the Classic Instruments gauges better? I don't even see a Bel Era III setup on their website. I think the Bel Era II gauge cluster is fugly.;)

That's not bad looking if you want an updated stock look...a lot better than the Bel Era II set. What technology is used? Are the needles lit? Is that a mechanical odometer? No tach? :?

If you're from Classic Instruments, which it would appear that way since you used the name. Why not just come out and say what you want without trying to beat around the bush?
Don't worry, no one is going to strong arm you for cash like Otis does. However you may not get any sales either.

Holy cow, that's a LOT more expensive than Dakota Digital VHX and I'm pretty sure that doesn't include the bezel. I'd also want a tach myself. ;)

BTW, I just paid $700 for a brand new DD VHX set and they're only $795 directly from DD. :)

That is the nicest looking aftermarket cluster I have seen. But without a tach, I see no reason to install one.

I like it to and for the same reason id like a tach. I spoke with them a little bit ago and they do offer chrome tach cups for the column. For originality, they nailed it

I like mine better anyway it still has a bowtie and a tach lol. Only cost about 250$ depending on who's gauges you choose.

That new cluster looks good but not $975 good. I could have my original restored back to new and cost about half

Hard to beat a stock cluster in the appearance dept. as far a speedometers go I have a functioning one in my 56 but my 55 don't need one. My mechanical tach tells me all I need to know.

This and the other Classic Instruments thread have some really strange posts.

CI has not responded to reborn55 on the forum, but did on chevytalk with a non-answer, saying to call.

That part of sales/customer service from them has mixed thoughts from me. I understand not wanting to expose your problems, as well as not embarrassing your customers. To a point. But a basic troubleshooting answer would be a good thing. Unless there isn't one.

Myself, it's not a choice I'd consider because of no tachometer for the 55-56 cars. The Dakota Digital VHX setup addresses that the best for 55-56 IMO.

DD also has a new series called HDX, but I don't like the layout. Some may, good to have another choice.

The old Custom Rod Gauges was the only previous setup that had a tach reasonably presented inside the cluster, and had all the other gauges too. But they had SO MANY other issues. Rocky's setup gets you a speedo and tach but all the other gauges have to be off the cluster.

Not so Rick lol. Simply put a set of 3-3/8 speedo tach and full gauge sweep in the 2 holes but I played with that it dont work lol waisted effort in terms of look and visual.
