How do you guys mount the body mount strips that are just bonded in place I assume in the rear area of the nomad? What is the best product for this application?
Thanks
Rocky

If you're talking about the rubber strips on top of the frame, I'd use Permatex "Ultra Black".....I used it on my clutch fork boot and the stuff is really strong!

I just left them off on mine, but I would think a weather strip adhesive would work fine also.

Originals are taped in place and a rubber band I think. Not real pretty.

Thanks Cnut I am referring to the strips.

Nick I responded to you in the thread on the other site accordingly sorry I wasn't more clear about what I was talking about.

Rocky? Did you retain for reuse the original rub strips? Or did you find a source for new ones? those things seem to be 'insurance' against rubbing between body and frame, but in most cases I've seen they don't come into contact there... (in the hump up area)...

Gary my original strips were gone but I knew they had to be something there because the body touches the frame without them or did on my mad at least with worn body mounts. Perhaps not as much with new ones?

Soooo.. where did you find replacements/repros?? :) The ones I've seen are for early Corvettes and are a different size...

I bought kit from old east figured they had their act together. What is the fit issue or issues with them?

It's probably correctly sized if you bought it from the guys at Ol'55 (East Coast chevys).. No issues as far as I know, but on my cars, they weren't hitting the body but were still glued in place...

PS. I bought some extra (new) ones off ebay and it turns out they are smaller (for early Corvette body/frame contact areas).. made the same but smaller.

690669076908I came across some photos I'd taken of my original strips (removed from my 57 Nomad when I took the body off the frame long ago). The dimensions of the strip are: 6" L x 1.25" W x~1/4" T . They have 4 ribs on one side and 3 on the other. Four are used on the rear of the frame to isolate frame to body contact during body-frame flexing. When I removed the body from the frame, these strips were still 'stuck' to the frame, but they pulled right off with little effort...

Here are a few photos...

Thanks for info Bama. My body mount kit dancuk part does not include them. I'm going to buy a strip from here and make my own.

Says not for outdoor use.

Ohh.. I thought you had already purchased some from Ol '55? Maybe that was someone else... I have not personally seen any repros available.

Note: If you have an old tire, worn but with a bit of tread remaining, I think you could cut out sections of the tread portion and glue the back side down to the frame, with the tread up towards the floor of the body. Use the dimensions from my post for the cutting...?

LOL I did buy from OL 55 they sold me dancuk kit. I called them yesterday to inquire got an unfriendly service rep lol typ Northerner . He said do you need them most folks don't. Put your car on frame if you hit stick tire chunks in there is what he said lol. He is suppose to be sending me 2 parts will report what they are. He did not even mention needing 4. I will probably just find another strip from McMaster that is for outdoors. Thanks for catch Nick I missed that. I did see outdoors but not see NO beside it lol.

The 'No Outdoors' specification might be more for sunlight (UV) degradability rather than anything else.. Placed between the frame and body, they wouldn't see much direct sunlight.. :) Personally, I'd find an old tire and cut out accurately sized pieces... and no one would ever know the difference, and I personally think it would provide the function nearly perfectly.. :)

Here's a link for the slightly smaller strips for early C1 Corvettes...

Have you had your body off the frame as yet, Rocky?? The originals might still be in place....? :)

My body mount kit came with those strips. I can't remember if it was the rubber ones or the poly ones but I have the new strips.

CN? Where did you buy your body mount kit? and what brand/packager was it? I bought a Danchuk kit a few years ago and it only came with the body mounts (NO strips)...

Bamanomad, like I said I don't even remember which kit they came in, much less where I bought them a decade or more ago.

Here's a kit that has them:

Thank you CN! :)

Maybe the reason we couldn't find a NOMAD / SW kit which included those strips is that Classic Industries identifies that kit as being for ..
... TF400206 - 1955-57 Chevrolet Hardtop Body Mount Bushing Set

... and those strips aren't used with anything other than SW bodies...

I previously mentioned that C1 Corvettes used a similar (but smaller) frame rubber pad. I had purchased a set of those previously thinking they might be the same as the Nomad... Today I had a chance to photograph the two side by side.. Corvette C1 is the smaller of the two...
