Hello, any thoughts on mini tubing a 56 nomad?
Do I need to buy the kit or just cut the original and add a 2&5/8 metal strip and re weld the original part back

Thanks Greg

It's a lot more complicated to do minitubs on a wagon than a sedan or HT. If you try to cut and add a strip the tub will interfere with the tailgate area. I did mine by using a new sedan tub for the front half, and hand-fabbing the rear half of the tub so it tapers back to the original location in the rear.

When I built my tubs there were no replacement tubs available for a wagon or Nomad. Now there are. If I was going to do it again I'd consider getting new wagon tubs and modifying them to fit. I'd put a strip between the front of the tub and the inner quarter, and modify the rear half of the tub so it ends up in the stock location.

Robert (MP&C) approached the tubs on the wagon he's rebuilding in a different way. You can check it out on his build thread.

Here's MP&C, AKA Robert and his wagon build - a very talented man and a load of knowledge. http://www.trifivechevys.com/showthread.php/3622-wagon-progress

I was just thinking....I don't know how wide the replacement tubs are but if they're full width you could cut the original tubs inboard as far as you want to move the tubs, then attach the new ones to the piece you left. That assumes the portion of the tubs close to the inner quarter is solid or repairable. It would eliminate one weld.
