I'm looking for a set of big block chevy fender well headers for my '56
sedan.
I have a set of standard Hooker super competition headers (2-1/2"
primaries,
with 4" collectors) for a big block in a 55-57 that I would be willing to
trade or
sell outright. I'm also looking for a mechanical fuel injection set up for
a big block chevy
with oval port heads. I would consider a rectangular port set up. E-mail
me with what
you have.

Bob,

A question: Did any 55 - 57 models come from the factory with no back
seat?
or was this just a "Salesman" option?

This has been a dispute with one of my friends for years, I say the "210"
models did come without a back seat in the 'base" model, am I right?

and another question:

Are all convertible parts, top, structure, brackets & braces, rear side
windows, back seats, and top motors, identical on all three years?

Just a super site Bob, for the record, I'm 50, Drive a concrete truck,
living in northern California. A '55 B.A. is inside the garage, under
construction. My answer to the towing question is; I had to tow quite a lot
of front wheel drive cars and also rear wheel drives. For Rear Wheel
drive, I usually go the rental yard and rent a tow dolly. The easyest
way for me is to just pull the u-joint at the rear end. Then take some
bailing wire and tie the drive shaft to the frame or the exhaust pipe or
something so that it stays in place at the trans with no fluid loss. I also
mark the drive shaft and the other half of the u-joint so that when I put
it
back together it's in the same spot. Mark the u-joints' caps also, but do
not leave them under the car with the drive shaft. Boy I sure like to
rattle on and on. I hope this helps Rick, LOL, Bruce. bruce@stormnet.com

Hey Bob-

I just read your question on using walnut shells to remove paint...walnut
shells??????
Did you ever think of using paint remover? Believe it or not, it really
works good!

Billy Klingman
p.s. - what are you smokin'? >>

Hi Bob & Everyone on the list,

Bill, HE WASN'T SMOKING ANYTHING !!!!!

Actually removing paint from your car with walnut shells is a new
technology
that is being used today. It's a form of media blasting ( Sand Blasting )
which can remove the paint from the body of your car without heating up the

metal & distorting the panels. Blasting with Glass Beads, & Sand produce
too
much heat Walnut Shells do not produce as much. Using Paint Remover has
some
draw backs if you don't prepare the metal properly. The same chemicals that

are used to remove the paint in the first place can come back to haunt you
in
your new paint job as soon as 6 months into your new paint job if it isn't
Completely Washed Off The Metal. In My opinion Walnut shells are the way to

go. you can remove all the paint & leave Whatever Plastic maybe hiding
below
the paint alone saving lots of money in repair work. Chemically Striping
the
paint you cannot it all has to come off.

I Hope This Helps ......

<< Hey Bob--
In response to your question about walnut shells to remove paint. Yes,
walnut shell blasting has been used for years to remove paint. However,
this has been replaced by PMB or plastic media blasting which you've
probably heard more about. It works real well if you don't want to use
chemical paint stripper. The only downside is that you have to mask off
anything or any area that you don't want the blast media to go into.
It's like a sandstorm in the blast booth and it goes everywhere. Most
places that sandblast now also have PMB for paint removal.

Just an idea! A good friend of mine uses a 9X12 umbrella tent in his yard

Hi Bob, information for 'Bakernomad' and anyone else that's
interested. Seat belts were not introduced into Chevys until
1956. If anyone has ever seen a set of '56's or '57's you will
know that they are a terrible contraption. 50's/ early 60's
style buckles are available, but as for matching the color of
the interior in a ' 55, good luck. For those interested in the
judging aspect, neither CCI nor BTC. deduct points for seat
belts, regardless of style. As for me , I installed belts in my
'55 back around 1984, they are a red that doesn't match the
red of my interior but they don't 'clash' either. For the budget
minded, go to your local scrap car dealer and pull a set out
of a wreck. Some have, what I would call, a plastic 'stand',
into which the belt retracts on the outboard side. This you can
match to your interior color, by buying a can of spray paint
from CCI. Dare I tell you that my belt came out of a scrapped
Ford pick up and cost me $5.00, complete with the 'stand' I
mentioned above. When you are cruising down the turnpike
at 70mph, in one of these old classics, you need everything
going for you. JimJ.

Bob & all:

In response to the message posted by Deanna Mears regarding the proposed
"gas out" on April 7-9, I really fail to see the point. I don't think it
would have the slightest effect on OPEC or any other petroleum producing
cartel, company, or nation. Think
about it . . . if (as proposed) you buy your gas in the days before the
"gas
out," or wait until after the 3 days, you will still be buying the same
amount of gas, right? It is not suggested that we don't DRIVE for those 3
days, so we would still be using the same amount of gas as if we did not
observe this protest, right? It will not affect demand, supply, marketing,
distribution, or COST of fuel in any way. I recall last year when this
same
plea went out for a single day "gas out." Despite the claim in the
message,
it was totally ineffectual, although I admit that perhaps it made some
folks
FEEL like they were doing something to make a difference, and maybe there
was some psychological value in doing that.

It is kinda' like wearing a pink ribbon to show support for breast cancer
research. It doesn't do anything to further research to advance a cure
(like an actual $$ donation would!), but it makes the ribbon wearer feel
good, and provides a talking point that might make someone (although I
can't
imagine who) aware of a problem that had previously gone unnoticed.

Also in her post, Ms. Mere clearly demonstrates the folly of our gripes
about the price of fuel. It is stated that the inflation adjusted price
for
gas (in 1981 dollars, and based on the 1981 prices -- when, by Ms. Mears'
assessment, the price was grossly inflated to the level it did not again
reach for some 15 years!!) should be about $2.47 -- *before* all new taxes
since that date! It sounds to me like we are getting a HECK of a bargain
on
gas in America! Just ask any of our European or Scandinavian brethren what
they pay for gas, if you want to feel good about $2.00/gallon.

Just my (apparently, politically incorrect) thoughts and observations.

Hi folks.....I've been reading about the proposed gas boycott. It all
looks
good on paper, but let's think about it a little. The only way for a
boycott to work, it to not use the product at all. If you are going to
boycott gas, what effect is it going to have if before the boycott, you
load
up on gas? All I see is record gas sales for those days. The same if you
wait until after the boycott.
The only way for a boycott to have any effect is if the American people cut
their gas usage to an absolute minimum until prices come down. Not just
for
a few days.
I don't think it is a good idea to call it a 'boycott'. I think that
could
have an adverse effect. Who do you think is going to be in most vulnerable
position? Opec, that has more money than could possibly ever be imagined,
or the American people that MUST have fuel?
My humble opinion is that maybe we should all quietly cut back on our fuel
consumption as much as possible (lower the demand), instead of possibly
pis***g off a VERY big dog. I also think someone should sell me a nice 57
Convertible for a very reasonable price. Which do you think will happen
first? :)

Hi....If you are going to restore a car to perfection (or near), I highly
recommend acid dipping the body. The results are unbelievable. It totally
removes ALL rust, no matter where it is hiding. It's like starting over
with
a brand new body. (except for body work or metal replacement where rust was
eliminated) They also prep the metal. It is a little more work since
everything must be removed from the car before dipping, but the end result,
in my opinion, is well worth it.
Just my $.02 worth.
