Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a GOOD reliable parts catalog/shop? Something like
what
Gene Berg (an indepth, reliable VW manufacturer/supplier) does for VW
parts,
____ does for Chevy's?

Thanks!

Well, Bob,

I think it was Abraham Lincoln who once said: "You can't please everyone."
So, as to not offend the fellow who does not want us to digress from Chevy
car talk, I think that anyone who wants to skip over any message, by any
reader, certainly has the right to do so.

I often do the same thing when someone goes on for four paragraphs on a
'hard
to find' paint chip:) But seriously, that is what this letter and list is
all about. Not only the auto, but the era. You can't really separate the
two,
and who would want to?

Someone asked about The "Big Bopper," J.P. Richardson, a Texas DJ, who
parished along with Buddy Holly and Richie Valens in the plane crash. That
tragic event celebrated it's 40th Anniversary last year, I believe.

J.P. had "Chantilly Lace," as his #1 song, but he was also a songwriter of
note, with another great 50s single, "Running Bear," by Johnny Preston,
hitting the top of the charts.

Waylon Jennings was playing playing bass that night in Clear Lake, Iowa,
when
the three took the fateful flight. According to legend, Tommy Alsup,
another
musician in the backup band (the back up band was not The Crickets),
flipped
a coin with Valens.

I have heard the that "if all the people who 'said' they should have been
on
that flight, were actually on the flight, it would have had to have been a
747 to hold them all, and not a Cessina"!

Keep up the "List" Bob. Anything within reason is 'fair game.' Have a great

weekend!!

In reference to the hardtop-to-convertible conversion, I remember my
dad
telling me about a friend of his who converted a closed car into a
convertible and after a while, he could no longer open the doors. I
believe
this was a measley little British car, but I would make sure you stiffen
the
frame. '55-'57 Chevy convertible frames have "skid plates" welded to the
bottom to the frame rails and an X reinforcement.
18 issues of car magazines 1990-1994 for sale. 14 issues of Car
Collector, 1 issue of All Chevy, 1 issue of Super Chevy, and 2 issues of
Cars & Parts. Some highlights: 53 Dodge Coronet, 57 Buick Roadmaster 75,
62
Olds Starfire, 58 Buick Century wagon, 64 Chevelle, 54 Cadillac Eldorado,
58
Pontiac Bonneville, 62 Pontiac Super Duty, 64 Impala SS409, 69 GTO Royal
Bobcat, 59 Olds 88, How to: 58-61 tri-power systems, 61 BELAIR convertible,

55 Buick, 56 Pontiac station wagon. All issues in excellent condition;
nothing torn out, no rips. $10.00 for all

Bob, I realize this was before "my time" (I'm 33) but wasn't Don McLean's
song named "American Pie" after the plane that was carrying Buddy Holly,
The
Big Bopper, and Richie Valens?

Tom in Wetumpka, AL

PS - I really want to thank you for your hard work on this list and to
thank Jerry Mull for telling me about it. I've been inspired to try a list
for
my woodworking club.

Editor's note. Tom I think you are correct about "American Pie". Do you
know what the Big Boppers hit song was?
BOB

I'm thinking it was "Chantilly Lace", wasn't it?

Ok maybe a dumb question but.....

What is the visual difference between a sedan and a hardtop. Is the sedan
just a two door and a hardtop the 4 door? What about a sport coupe?
Fortunately I can recognize a convertible ;-)

Thanks from a newbie

Bob
bmcnulty@csuchico.edu

Editor's note. I think the term hardtop refers to a car without a post
behind the front window. List members is that correct?

Bob

I know I am speaking for a lot of your list members when I say Thank You
for a job well done.

We really appreciate the opportunity to communicate with each other that
you provide.

I work for the largest Internet consulting company in the world. My job
is to advise newspapers, magazines, etc how to survive the Internet. I
will give list members a preview of some of the things that they will see
in the next few years. Getting your magazines in the mail will be a thing
of the past for most people. You will subscribe to a magazine and you will
get it each month delivered to you over the Internet. Magazines as we
know them today will also be different. Instead of subscribing to Time
Magazine, you will subscribe to subjects. For example if your primary
interest is fashion, your magazine will contain only articles about
fashion. AOL's purchase of Time Warner is just a start of this trend.
There will be more.

So Bob don't worry that CCI or Bow Time will not recognize your list. In
a few years, they will be asking you to recognize them?
