PEARL PAINT IS NOT EXPENSIVE IF YOUR PAINTING IT YOUR SELF. NOW A PAINTER
IS GOING TO SCAM YOU AND TELL YOU IT IS.YOU CAN ADD PEARL TO YOUR BASE
COLOR
OR YOU CAN ADD TO YOUR CLEAR AND FINISH WITH PLAIN CLEAR ALONE. ALL YOUR
DOING IS ADDING ANOTHER COAT OR TWO THIS WAY. ALSO THERE ARE COLORS THAT
ADD
TINTED CLEAR COAT AFTER YOUR BASE COLOR AND THEN FINISH WITH CLEAR.YES,
I'AM
A PAINTER.

Hi Bob and you all at the list,

I want to paint my 55 4door sedan in the twotone combination Harvets
gold/indian Ivory. Does anyone know some paint specification numbers? Does
anybody know if the paint is still available and from which brand?

Thanx

Fellow Chevy lovers..more on the paint subject: the new wave of this
kind of paint that "flip-flops" several colors, the metallic chips in the
paint are actually little "pyramids" with six sides of different colors.
The paint is then electrically charged or polarized where the pyramids are
all lined up the same direction, it is very expensive.

On my 56 nine-pass wagon with AC there is a little foot bladder on the
floor next to the dimmer switch for the WS squirter, is this stock or
after market?
I am parting out several(bunches) of 46-85 Chevro
lets,Camaros,Impalas, anybody need anything? let me know. Rick 210-628-4118

Here's a question, if you paint your car with the color
changing chromolusion paint, what color do you put on
the title and registration for DMV. ?

I also wonder what people put down on their drivers
license for hair color if they're bald ?

BOB, THANKS FOR THE GREAT LIST. LOOKING AT ALL OF THE RECENT E-MAILS ABOUT

GAS PRICES REMINDED ME OF SOMETHING THAT HAPPENED AT WORK ONE DAY ABOUT 6
OR
7 YEARS AGO. WORKING FOR OUR COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT REQUIRES ME TO DO

ALL I CAN TO RID OUR AREA OF ILLEGAL SUBSTANCES. ONE DAY I RECEIVED A CALL
FROM SOMEONE IN REFERENCE TO A MOONSHINE STILL. YEA, A MOONSHINE STILL
(SOMETHING TENNESSEE USED TO BE FAMOUS FOR). MYSELF AND A COUPLE OF GUYS I
WORK WITH DROVE TO THE HOUSE WHERE THE STILL WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LOCATED. I
TALKED TO THE GUY WHO LIVED THERE AND TOLD HIM THE INFORMATION I RECEIVED.
I
ASKED FOR HIS PERMISSION TO LOOK AROUND AND HE REPLIED "I'M CAUGHT ANYWAY,

I'LL SHOW YOU WHERE IT'S AT". OUT BEHIND HIS HOUSE WAS AN OLD WOODED SHED
WITH A PADLOCKED DOOR. HE OPENED THE DOOR AND SAID "THERE IT IS". SURE
ENOUGH
THERE WAS THE MAKINGS OF A VERY CRUDE MOONSHINE STILL. WHILE TAKING THE
COMPONENTS APART I FOUND FOUR QUART JARS OF "SHINE". TWO CONTAINED CRYSTAL
CLEAR LIQUID AND SMELLED AS IF IT WOULD TAKE THE TOP OF YOUR HEAD OFF IF
YOU
DRANK IT. THE OTHER TWO CONTAINED A BROWNISH LIQUID. THEY SMELLED PRETTY
ROUGH TOO. I ASKED THE GUY WHAT THE DIFFERENCE WAS IN THE TWO. HE REPLIED
"THE CLEAR STUFF IS MY GOOD STUFF, I DRINK IT. THE BROWN STUFF I CHARRED TO

LONG, I POUR IT IN MY CAR AND USE IT FOR GAS". I GUESS THAT'S ONE
ALTERNATIVE
FOR THE HIGH GAS PRICES.

This is for Roger Francis. First of all, in 1956 Douglas MacArthur
wasn't in the Army. He was board chairman of Remington-Rand Corp. He had
been recalled from Korea after a dispute with President Truman in '52.
Not to say that MacArthur may not have ever used the vehicle. All
retired officers, especially generals, continue to enjoy the privileges
of rank on any US military base in the world. MacArthur may have stayed
at Ft. Reilly at different times and was accorded use of the vehicle
while he was there.
This is a personal opinion. I would do some more background checking
on this vehicle. If it was indeed used by MacArthur, I think I would
check with some Army museums and see if they were interested in
purchasing it. If they're not interested in it, go for the conversion.
Just keep all the paper work. I don't know how viable this would be for
you. Like I said, this is just one man's opinion. Good Luck! Wild Bill

YOU CAN USE THE 283 STAGGERED BOLT VALVE COVER TYPE HEADS ON THE 327 ALSO
IF YOU WANT IT TO LOOK LIKE A 283 ALSO. FROM THE TOP..
=================================

I like this idea, and am considering doing this myself - however, I am a
little worried about what kind of compression ratio you would end up
with....
Any of you hard-core gearheads wanna work this one out?

CJ WilsonŻ

I have 350 heads on a 265 and put 283 valve covers on it to look original.
Not staggered, but its
looks and runs great.

The first model year for the Chevy 2-Door Hardtop was 1950. It was dubbed
the
"Belair" - a name later used for the top line series of cars.

Kim, in reference to the special paint your friend used on his car, don't
believe everything someone tells you. At $250 per gallon and a total of
$10,000 for the paint, that is 40 gallons of paint which will paint a 4000
sq ft house twice. Even 5 gallon of paint is a lot of paint for a car
unless you are using it as bondo. Ken

Editor's note. How many gallons of paint is normally used in a base coat
clear coat paint job for a TriFive?

<< From: Bob Rice,

HER STORY: Enough is Enough .... THAT ENGINE'S GOTTA GO! >>

Hi Bob, & Everyone on the list.

Hey Bob Here's a thought, Put it on a dolly & roll it into the garage where

She don't have to look at it. I once had an engine sitting on the side of
my
house next to the garden. My wife complained for months for me to remove it

from the Garden. One day I came home from work to find the Intake Manifold,

Oil Pan & Heads from the engine sitting next to the garbage pail. When I
went
to see what She did the engine was laying on the floor ( Crank to the
ground
) & she had planted flowers ( annuals ) in the top of the Cylinders & The
Lifter Valley. I took one look at what she did Laughed my A-- Off went
inside
& said point well taken I'll get rid of it as soon as the Flowers Dye. I
was
the only one on my block with a Chevy Small Block Planter ;o)

PS: The Planter Has Since Been Recycled

Hi Bob and rest of the gang. Love to read the comments and replies.
like reading a magazine. Since reading recent articles I'm considering
putting a web + in the throne room. They install phones, don't they?

l disagree Mr brown. number of doors does not determine coupe or sedan.
it is designated by purpose of the design. sedan: main purpose people
hauling with large passenger area,(usually 4 doors) coupe: major purpose
of design other than passengers. business coupe, sports coupe deluxe
coupe. lf memory is still good (60+) my dad bought a 41 Chevy with sedan
body style with only 2 doors. It was called a two door sedan. In late
30's dad accepted delivery of the 1st woody sta/ wagon in tacoma
Wash. from Art Walker chevrolet. If wrong about coupes and sedans l'll
eat a banana split! Nothing sweeter sounding than a chevy 6 with a
split manifold backing off.....Monte

I hate to splash cold water on the 1956 Suburban being used as a staff
vehicle for General Douglas McArthur....but he was fired by President
Harry Truman in 1951, made his famous "old soldiers never die" speech to
congress, and became chairman of the board of Remington rand 5 years
before the suburban was built.

On the 8th day HE created the 55 Chevrolet
(and GMC Suburban Pickups)

I am preparing to put a newly rebuilt 265 V8 engine in my '56. It is bored
.060 over. The guy at the engine rebuilding place told me that it is not
really necessary to install hardened valve seats to prevent the valves from

burning up prematurely. Everyone else I have talked to has recommended that
I
install hardened valve seats for the exhaust valves. Can someone who knows
engines well, give me THEIR opinion on this matter!!!!??????? These guys
have been rebuilding engines for a long time & specialize in racing
engines,
but do ANY engine. They told me that the gasoline nowadays has additives in

it to prevent burning the valves. Is this true? should I still insist on
hardened seats? Or would I be waisting my money? Would appreciate any good

advice on this. Thanks to all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Richard

Editor's note. Richard, the cost of hardened valve seats is small compared
to the cost of an
overhaul. I would have them put in. On my 283 overhaul, the cost of
hardened valve seats
was less than $100. Who knows what gas will be like in the future.

Mine is a townsman but I only know that by decoding the trim tag. This car
has no scrip's saying this at all............So what's the diff?

I have a pair of 4 door sedan rear doors here that I would like to get rid
of. They have lower skin/inner door rot, but they are complete except for
the stainess trim. They even have the accessory vent shades in good shape.

Maybe you can fix these doors up to use or use them for their parts? I
would
like to get $15 each for them. Don't know if I can ship them, but I am
located near Reading PA if you would like to come pick them up.
