welcome back!

did you see any 55 - 57's out there? ;) if so they are probably in great
shape.

i know what you mean about the pearl harbor ships and memorial. every DEC
7th i feel a touch of sadness - and i am not even 50. i also always change
the channel when they show footage and clips of the bombing.

some interesting facts:
most of the ships that were hit on the 7th were later rebuilt.

in the days before the 7th, there just happened to be a big annual
meeting of doctors. their specialty - emergency medicine and also
treatments for shock due to heavy injuries. because of this many men were
saved that day.

a radarman saw some planes coming in on his monitor and told his officer.
he replied, "don't worry about it. it's nothing."

the guy who planned the attack and/or carried it out - admiral yamamoto -
a year or two later we found out where he would be flying. his plane was
shot down. this was a big moral defeat for japan as he was quite a hero.

by the way, the design of the 57 and many 50's cars were influenced in
large part from the war - fins, 'bullets', hood ornaments, etc.

Bob, I agree with Oliver, please restrict the 'Newsletter' to Tri-five
info. Once other hackers find out you will advertise free for them, they
will flood your system. There are Ford, Mopar, etc sites available for
them to use. I do not read this Newsletter to hear about Mustangs!!!
Thanks Bob , keep up the good work, and as always remember "GOD is Love',

Hello Bob. I hope you don't mind getting this e-mail. I am with the
Classic Chevys of San Diego car club and got your address at a meeting. I
am on the hunt for a set of what some call 3/4 length headers for a small
block in a 55 Chevy Belair. I need them short because I plan to put a set
of drop spindles on the car and need the ground clearance. Something the
full length Hookers headers I have now won't allow. I need at least 1 3/4
primary tubing and all I can find is 1 5/8. For the engine I have that
would be like try to pass gas through a straw. Do you or any of fellow
members know of a source that makes such a product? Just a note, I am
looking for something other than the universal shorty headers. Please send
any response to mstephens@ssfautoparts.com.

thank you

<< Questions:
With the rear springs moved inward and the rear wells widened, does anyone
know what the largest wheel/tire combo can be fit. I know a 12.5x29-15

wider rim. I have yet to purchase rims/tires or narrow the rear-end some
I'm open to all options. >>

With the springs inside frame, the 29x12.5x15 is a tight fit. I have those
tires mounted to Weld 15x12 w/ 3 1/4 backspace. Rear is narrowed & frame is

cut & plated at frame seam for clearance. The only other tire that will fit

mine is a 30x13.5x15 ET Street (w/ frame cut). The 15's will never fit
unless
you back half the car.

Steve,

Thanks for the info about the brakes, I will look into it. I just
bought a second 1955 Belair and has everything, but everything needs
rebuilding, repainting, recovering or just plain replacing so I will be
asking a lot of questions in the future. Right now the 265 powerpack
engine has the heads off and I'm trying to decide what is the next best way
to go. Do you know a good local (inexpensive)shop where I could take the
heads and block to get reworked? This will be staying stock.
Thanks, Kim

Bill,

CAUTION! When putting radial tires on stock rims, the rim could crack
due to the added side wall stress of radial tires.

Coker even suggests having the stock rims inspected before installation. I
suggest you contact Corker before you buy their web page is:

I am retired now and I have time to go to many cars shows with my Nomad.
When I mentioned to the guy next to me at the last car show with the Brand
X car that I am on a great Internet list for TriFives where I can get
answers to my questions about my Nomad, he said "You Chevy guys have all of
the fun".

I print out every list you send and keep them. When I showed some of your
list to him, he could not believe it. He wanted to know if there was a
list like that for his Brand X car. I told him I did not know and then he
said, "Even if there was such a list for his car, it would probably cost a
bunch to be on the list".

I told him that you made the price to be on the list affordable for
everyone.
