Hi everybody- I know this is a bit tangential to the
main topic here, but... does anyone know of a company
that prints checks with a 55/6/7 chevy background?
Or even classic 50's cars would be good enough....

CJ Wilson >>

I have a check set from Checks In The Mail. Their phone number is
1-800-733-4443 on the bottom of the check. It also is called Dream
Machines (DM19). It has a tail fin view of a 59 Cadillac, a 57 Chevy and a
Buick Century. The three checks rotate through the stack.

bob, please let me know if you received my e-mail? also i suggest that
people put the cities they live in their ads. it would be expensive to
buy an engine or quarter panels from someone who lives 3000 miles away.

for sale 1957 283 powerpack engine short block, needs rebuilding $500 or
trade for n.o.s. chrome.

seatcovers aftermarket patterns, mostly vinyl-striped or plaid. these are
heavy, good quality covers that would be good for someone who is building a

car that isn't going to be 10% original. price=$85 per car.

wanted 55-67 chevy or elcamino, no rustever and driveable. no expensive (

let's remortgage our house) prices. a car that runs, but needs a paint job

or upholstery work is ok, but no junk yard cars.

Hi all:

The much awaited info for having your car put on a T shirt at a VERY
reasonable price-they were very professional-looking and quite colorful!

My wife met this guy at the East Coast Boardwalk Nationals in Wildwood, NJ.

Feel free to contact him-it sounds like an awesome deal!

To add to my posting last week in regards to differences between '55
original and reproduction shop manuals, an original shop manual printed
by General Motors Products of Canada, Limited for the '55 Chevrolet has
a title of "Maintenance Manual" instead of "Shop Manual" as the USA
version is titled. Like the USA version, the Canadian Maintenance
Manual also has the right side upper and lower corners rounded and has
color on pages 7-50 thru 7-55. No price on cover, however. I doubt if
anyone has reproduced the Canadian version but I ended up buying one on
eBay thinking that it was something different than the shop manual since
it was called a maintenance manual. Even though it was the same, it's
nice to add to my collection.

Hi Bob & fellow list members!
This is a response to Keith Chaytor's request for pictures of 'Classic'
Fire Chief's Cars. The enclosed pages show the restoration of a 1955
Fire Chiefs Car which Hawkeye Area Classic Chevy Club (HACCC) of Cedar
Rapids Iowa presented to the City of Cedar Rapids Fire Department last
June (1999). It was a fun and exciting project. Our local Chevy Club has
our meetings in 'Central Fire Station' - hence - the donation. We have
almost $29,000 invested in its restoration. Hope everyone enjoys our
project and Bob, keep up the great work on the LIST.

Great site, Bob!

My '56 210 is just about ready to go into the body shop for a new paint
job.
They have asked to have the engine & tranny removed. They also suggested
that it would be a good time to either pump up the motor or replace it.
Seeing that the car was purchased last year with a '67 283 with a
powerglide, my question to all that have crossed this path, is, should I go
out and purchase a crate "350" to hook up to a TH350 that is getting
rebuilt
for me? My intentions for our '56 is for cruising, to and from shows and
not to race it. I really would like to go with something super reliable
with a HEI distributor, but, I keep hearing about this new motor clearing
the firewall. Since, the car is not "numbers correct" I feel I have some
options. I'm not quite sure what I want to do. Any suggestions would be
appreciated.

Thanks,
Mel
Union City, CA

Editor's note. Many vendors have motor side mounts that move the engine
forward about 1 inch so the HEI distributor will clear the fire wall.

Ken, I've been told many times that running anti-freeze with your
coolant
will greatly increase the boiling point, so how do you come by the
fact
that
running straight water is better for hot weather driving &
idling???? A
few
years back, I drove my 56 across the Mojave Desert in mid July at
110
degree
temps & when I got to Needles it was 114 !!!!! My temp gauge was
nearly
all
the way up to the H, but I did Not boil over!!!! I am sure that if
I were
running water only, I would have never made it to Needles! I
always run
50/50 anti-freeze/water! (year-around)

Richard

Richard, water alone exhibits better heat transfer characteristics that a
mixture of water and antifreeze. Hence, it absorbs heat more readily from
the engine and gives it up more readily to the radiator.

Hey Bob,

Please post the following.

WANTED ***PRO STREET *** I'm looking for a 57 Chevy Pro Street that's
fully
street legal in the 750hp to 900hp range on gas. Nitrous is okay but
should
be on top of power requirements already mentioned. I would consider other
cars if built right. I want a BBC with many cubic inches (540 or above)
and
don't want a blower. I don't want the "run hot" worries that go with a
blower. I want a fully tubbed car with fully detailed trunk and fully
complete interior. Car should have a full tube Alston or similar frame,
3/4
to full cage, coil overs, 4-link, etc. Want auto trans but no 2-sp glides.

I do not intend to race the car. Would like Mark Williams or similar axle
setup. Dakota Digital, Ididit, Weld, Mickey Thompson, Koni, MSD, Manley,
Dart, Merlin, JE Pistons, etc. are equipment manufacturers that I would
love
to see represented on the car. I want a car that has been assembled by
professionals with a clear understanding that all things must match to get
the real performance from the whole package.

I have two vehicles of which I would want to trade one. And yes, they
share
the same garage and I've yet to catch them fighting.

1996 Mustang Cobra Convertible with 5,024 original miles. The car has
never
been in the rain and never smoked in. The car is Laser Red Tinted
Clearcoat
in better than new condition. The interior and top are black. The car has
a
5-speed, 460 watt stereo with cd, power everything and was the first year
Ford offered the 4.6 liter dual overhead cam modular V-8. The aftermarket

parts include the following;
Eibach Pro-Kit Springs, Dugan Criss-Cross Subframe Connectors, Monroe
Formula Gran Prix Shocks and Struts, C&L 80 mm Mass Air Meter, C&L 10.4 mm
Racing Wires, Pro 5.0 Power Tower Billet Shifter, Bassanni Catback Exhaust
with Hi Flow Cats, Flowmaster 2 Chamber Mufflers, Ford Motorsport 3:73
Gear,
Amsoil Gear Oil, Speedo Correcting Gear, Saleen Pedals. These extras were
about $5,000 with labor. All the original parts are also included in the
price. The car puts out approximately 345 hp with 330 lb/ft of torque.
The
price for the car is $25,900 firm.

My other car is a 1995 Corvette Convertible that was special ordered with
every factory option. The car is Torch Red and shines like it's always
wet.
I have used Zymol wax only since it was new. The car has 6,882 original
miles and has never been in the rain. It has a black top and black leather

interior. It also has the factory matching red hardtop which was a $2k
option. It has the following equipment;
6-speed, CD player, FX3 Adjustable Suspension, Dual 6-way Power Sport
Leather Seats, Goodyear Run Flat Tires, Electronic Air Conditioning, CD.
I've also added a Power Effects tuneable exhaust, Hypertech Power
Programmer
(computer), K&N filters, Hardtop winch, etc. I have all the original parts

and they are included in the price. The window sticker on the car was
$50,869 and is included with all other original paper work. The
modifications after the fact were about $3,000 extra. This is one of the
nicest and cleanest vettes on the road anywhere. The car is approximately
325 hp and 355 lb/ft torque. The price is $33,500 firm.

If anyone has a car that fits or knows of a car, please get back with me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have pictures of both cars I can
Email upon request. Both of my cars are probably in the top 1% of those
produced in those respective years. I'm a full blown fanatic.

By the way, do you know how I can go about finding out more history on my
car I.E.: how many of this model were built, in this configuration etc?

Thanks for your very valuable and dedicated service.

Jack Wildermuth

Editor's note. I have several books that have the numbers of various
models of TriFives produced. What car do you have? I have never heard of
any books that broke this data down any further except for the number of
57's with fuel injection.

For Tom Garrett looking for a replacement distributor. Take a look at a
Mallory
Unilite, these distributors use an infer-red LED pick up. They are
physically
the same size as a stock single point unit and are great for performance.
Summitt sells them for about $150 with vacuum advance. If you want a
stock
look you can paint the aluminum housing and cap black. I've been running
one
for about 6 years and have never had to mess with it! They will work with
your
stock coil and don't take much to hook up.
