hello all,

many of us here buy repro parts for our 55 - 57's. one thing i would be
careful of is that some repro parts are not made properly. so you may want
to ask your 55 - 57 parts shop/guy if they have a used or rebuilt part.

this is not to say that any 55 - 57 parts guys here are deficient in any
manner or form. i am just saying that you may want to consider a rebuilt
part before you get a repro.

there are some 55 - 57 parts guys listed in hemmings (and other places)
who have only repro. others are a mix - they have used parts and rebuilt.
some others even have someone who just works in the
used/rebuilt parts area and have an entire area set aside for this.

obviously in some cases only a repro part is available or it makes sense
not to get used/rebuilt. this is up to each person to consider.

it would be helpful to all of us if list members can tell us which parts
to avoid or to look for. that is, list the specific part and mention why
it's not made right or what's wrong with it.

if you compare the repro '57 front bumpers to the originals i think the
repro are not as heavy and the metal is thinner.

hello all,

there has been a lot of 'bitchin and moanin' and 'bellyachin' lately
regarding other clubs and businesses mentioning Bob's elist or recognizing
it in some way. i feel that we get along well just as we are and don't
need anyone else - only ourselves and people contributing.

so to all of you worried about who mentions bob's list - your energy and
efforts would be MUCH more useful if instead you wrote about 55 - 57
chevies. for example, what are some interesting things you've come across
while repairing your car? pass along anything that might be of use to us
that you have heard from someone else.

here is an example of something i just learned that i think is quite
useful:

on (or someplace near) the exhaust manifold is a heat riser valve.
if your engine has been running badly or has heat problems you may want to
check this part. if it doesnt open right it can mess up your heads and
valves.

I've seen the comments about CCI,I gotta add my two cents worth.I'm member
#15391 or I should say I used to be. Coincidentally my subscription ran out
after an issue or two with 64 Chevys on the cover as I recall. I do not
want to see those cars in my 55-56-57 club. Hate their high prices too. So
I let my subscription go. I had been a member since 76 or so well the
"late" 70's anyway. I miss the monthly arrival as it had been such a habit
but have no interest in later cars. I'll never re-up with them. And thanks
to the people who responded to my questions here. And thanks to you

Dear Bob, can you or anybody on your email list send me in the right
direction for some air shocks. I have a `56,210 2 door handyman wagon. It
was
a cylinder not sure if that makes a different on rear shocks. I need MFG.
and
a part number to go by. Thanks so much, AL.

To Bob McNulty and all:

I did business last year with Frank Botte, and will tell you that he proved
to be not only a very honest and reasonably-priced businessman, but a heck
of a big help in answering tough technical questions I had about LOTS of
suspension and brake stuff I was working on. Frank is not really in the
parts business (he tells me), but really is in the restoration business,
and
passes on the great prices he gets on Classic Chevy items to the members of
this list. Hey, if I was willing to order clear across the country (from
Reno to New York) for all my parts, it must have been for a good reason! I
highly recommend doing business with this true Classic fan and expert.

Bob,

Please include in the newsletter. I need help looking for a good high
performance shop in the Atlanta that can be trusted. Hard to find but
hopefully not impossible.

I'm looking at obtaining a Pro Street Chevy real soon. It needs an upgrade

from manual to power brakes. It also has dual 4-barrels. Can anyone refer

me to one or more speed shops in the Atlanta area who can professionally
repair and work on this type of car???? Finding someone I can trust is a
key
factor in my deciding whether to get this car. I haven't had any mega-high

performance cars in 10 to 12 years. I do remember that 2-4's require a
little extra attention. I'm on the east side of Atlanta so anything in
Tucker, Stone Mtn, Decatur, Athens, Lithonia, Conyers, Lawrenceville, etc.
would be preferred.

Thanks to Bob and anyone who might help.
Curtis
