Hello Bob and thanks once again for your the time and effort you put into
this site.

*WANTED* 55 Chevy front fenders. I only need part of the fenders. I am
looking for some damaged fenders that I can cut out the head light, turn
signal and side rib to graft into the fenders of a project truck. I have a
nice set but can't bring myself to cut them. I would even consider some
with rusted areas that could be fixed with a repair patch. If some has a
few bad fenders please e mail me at bourgoin@infowest.com

Thanks,

<< Does anyone know how to install the vertical rubber strip between the
front & rear side window on a four door hardtop? I ordered the only ones
danchuk offers and on the package it says for 2 door hardtop &
convertible. Do
i have the wrong part or am I doing something wrong? Have had no luck in
making them fit. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks Bob >>

Per my Danchuk catalog, you should have part number 566 or 566A. The
easiest way to install them is to roll up the rear window full height,
open the back door, and slide the part with the metal backing up the
slot in the front side of your rear window frame. The outstanding leg
of the seal lies against the stainless steel cover that covers the seal
on the inside. You may have to adjust the location of the front and
rear windows relative to each other as if they are too tight, when you
open the front window, it will pull the seal down and out.

Hope this helps.

Bob,
I'm an avid 55-57 Chevy fan and have just completed a ground up resto of my
55 Belair Sport coupe which I have owned for 15 years. I am starting a new
project and am looking for a 33 or 34 Ford Roadster body. I know it is
against the grain chasing Ford parts on this site but I was hoping a list
member may be able to help me. Does anyone out there have any leads. All
replies welcome.

There are two 1955 shop manuals for sale on eBay (that I know). One is
listed as original in the item description and it's not. The other IS
an original and has a starting price of $1.00, however, there is a
reserve price. The copyright date of 1954 fools sellers into thinking
that they have an "original". To see or bid on the real original, go
to:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/aw-cgi/ebayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=428952022
&r=0&t=0

The reprint (non-original) has an eBay Item number of 427527444

The original's bid date is 9-11-00 at 16:10:55 PDT. For those who
don't know, a factory original manual has a "Price $1.50" on the lower
right corner and the upper and lower right corners of the cover and
pages are rounded. The really nice thing about an original are the
colors on pages 7-50 to 7-55 that show how the Powerglide works.

In regards to the original manual that was bought by another list member
a week or so ago, I agree the shipping price of $10.00 may have been
high but he got an original for a total of $16.00 which is a bargain.

Thank you Bob for doing so much for us Chevy enthusiasts!
I wonder, when do you sleep?

One question for you list members:
I'm need that very small RESISTOR INSIDE THE WIPER MOTOR, that regulates

the speed of the wiper. Mine is broken. A friend rebuilt the motor and
this is the only thing that would complete the work. I live in Europe so
we don't have that specialists at the next corner. Where can I get it or
could someone send it to me in a letter (off course I'll pay for)?

Bob and all,
I recently responded to a message about my 57 Handyman having a problem

with fuel coming out of the filler neck when refueling and spewing out
while
driving. I've seen some responses to this and wanted to comment further
about
a possible solution that I believe I found for my problem. The vent tube on

my car was actually hanging lower than the filler tube, once I repositioned

it higher than any portion of the filler tube it works ok. At least for the

first time of refueling, drove to a cruise and back home and don't see any
evidence of fuel leaking out and running down over the tail light and
bumper.
I still think that, as someone else offered, part of the problem may be
that
the pump nozzle is so much smaller than the filler neck that it doesn't
shut
off because there is so much more volume in the filler neck around the
nozzle. When I filled the tank I knew about how many gallons it would take
to
fill it. Near the end I slowed down the pump to a trickle and it was able
to
shut off properly. Someone had asked if it would cure the problem by
putting
a restricter in the filler neck to step the size down to what late model
cars
that were designed after the change to the smaller filler neck for unleaded

fuel. I believe that would help if not entirely fix the problem. I will try

this someday, but is not high on my priority list. I'm getting the car
ready
for Route 66 in San Berdoo and have more than enough to keep me busy.
Anyone
going to Rte.66 cruise look for me and say hello. I have a 57 210 2 dr.
Handyman wagon, bright blue, I will be parked on the cruise route on 4th
street between D and Arrowhead, or one of the cross streets near there,

Berdoo & Riverside counties. Just look for our "Poor Boys" banner. Hope to
see you there. Jim

I read in the 55 -57 Pat Chappal book that the very first 2 weeks
production of the 57 belairs had actual gold on the 'V' part on the trunk

could have been other 'gold' parts also.

I must say, I enjoy the list & have learned from it. Regarding the gas
spills. I recently sold a former Forestry Service '57 Sedan Delivery (rare

w/side glass) and it too, spewed gas when filling. After a couple of
"smelly
hands", I watched the mileage & added 10 gallons at a time, 15 on a long
trip.
Please post the following for sale:

Used '55 2dr sedan windshield, front & back windshield stainless, inner
fender panels, front splash pan (3 pieces), 2dr sedan interior window
moldings, heater box, front "A" arms and a bunch of small interior pieces,
i.e., ash tray, speaker grill, hub caps, straight back bumper, etc.
$350.00
for all.

Used '56 210 side stainless, 8 pieces. $100.00.
Used '57 hood, straight but has surface rust & radiator support. $100.00.

Miscellaneous stainless and probably some other stuff I forgot about. If
some one comes after it, they can have it all for $500.00

I may have missed it, but I haven't yet seen what I believe to be the best
response to the trivia question asking for the names of "...two people who
had
two cars named after them".

I'd say that the best answer is Ransom E. OLds (Oldsmobile and Reo) and
Henry J.
Kaiser (Kaiser and Henry J). While most would recognize Reo as the
Lansing,
Michigan-based manufacturer of trucks, they did also build passenger cars
through 1936.

Editor's note. This is the correct answer.

Fred,
I don't mean to insult you. I'm sure your 48' Buick is a beautiful car,
but
it just isn't a very desirable one. I believe this is why dealers are not
willing to trade. Why trade a highly desirable and fast selling 55,56 , or
57
Chevy for a car that may sit on their lot for a year or longer. I noticed
that you have had this car for sale for a long time, so put yourself in a
dealer's shoes for a minute. It just wouldn't be a smart business deal.

It's like the woman that wrote Bob about the 57' 4dr Hardtop. The car may
be
priceless to you, but when it comes time to sell it, the best thing to do
is
get a professional, non-biased appraisal.

For those too young to remember, when cars requiring unleaded gas first
came on the market, they installed a filler neck that was smaller than
those used on previous cars using leaded gas. Gas pump nozzles for
unleaded gas were made smaller to fit the smaller openings. All this
to prevent using leaded gas in a car made for unleaded with all the
"smog" equipment including the catalytic converter which would be ruined
with leaded gas.
