Bob,
You still do a great job. For Charlie Shew about the one or two piece frame
(I won't even mention the third type because there were so few of them). If
the frame is a two piece there will be noticeable welds on the top and
bottom
of the frame in the center of the frame for the length of the frame. The
weld are there because two pieces of channel were butted together to make
the frame. A one-piece frame is simply that, one piece of mandrel bent box
tubing. If it is a little different and has boxed upper and lower a-arms
and
places to mount four shocks on the rear just call me and Ill trade a good
west coast or one piece frame for it. That type of frame is really
undesirable. (Ha)

Hello Bob, fabulous list, site, info, and lots of fun, I turn lots of
friends onto this site every week, now they know where I get such great
ideas and in site from, but here is my beef. Grant & Tye Morris out of
Seattle complained over the weekend of the $50 cost to enter the " End of
The World Rod Run" in Long Beach-Ocean Park Washington. Well, as a member
of the Rose City Classic Chevy club in the Portland Or, Vancouver Wa.
area, and viewer or participant in the End of The World Run for many
years, where do they think they are coming from? First, if you pay in
advance it was only $40, with that you got two fresh salmon and tuna meals
with corn on the cob, chips, pops, etc, and a continental breakfast,
ticket to the raffle and almost every entrant won a prize, you could not
buy any extra, there was live music and entertainment for 2 solid days, a
couple dozen great vendors, I spent a lot of money, about 1800 of the
greatest rods to view in a 400 mile radius, and I could go on and on.
This is the 17th annual run to the end of the world by a small but great
car club on the SW Washington peninsula called the "Beach Barons" they do
a fine job, and it is a highlite weekend for many many auto enthusiasts.
$5 dollar admission is cheap considering the number of cars a "viewer "
would get to witness, let alone any other attractions cost down at the
beach, this can take hours, and be a very pleasurable car show, especially
for the cost compared to major car attractions,, I think Grant and Tye
should have stayed home and considered a local cruise in that itself would
cost $6 to $10, for a few hours and 75 to 125 entrants, usually without
toilets, food, entertainment, vendors, and a manicured grass setting in a
large park. The best idea for the Morris' is to stay home, have a
starbucks, and don't diss the fun that was had by all that participated in
the rod run, and PS , don't ever go to a major GoodGuy event, or a
National show, not without your savings account, unless your truly a car
buff and can support the cause, it costs lots of money to put these major
events on, and by the way, the local merchants, gave all of the 50 to 60
trophys, and many other costs associated with the event. The food alone
was worth the $50 dollars, I got a discount of $10 because we reserved
early. One major added note, the money that may have been a profit from
this event, clearly goes to a major needed chairity and school cause for
the area, very plainly put, and all entrants knew that.

In any case keep up the great list and information site, but the buick
owners should stay off a tri-five chevy site. Thanks,,,Byron Leeper,
proud owner of a 56 BelAir HT, 56 Sedan Delivery, and 57 Pontiac Catalina
Chieftain HT. All running, looking great, and taking trophys.

I am by no means an expert on anything..just ask my wife.
Regarding the roller bearing swap into original hubs...I need proof.
As I stated in an earlier post, I used the hubs from a 67 Biscayne and the
original 56 drums to facilitate the roller bearing upgrade for my 56 210
sedan. If there is a direct roller replacement for the ball bearings,
could someone please post the part numbers?

Hi Bob,
This is for Steve and anyone else that pays to enter a car show.
While I am certainly not familiar with how things are done on the "left
coast", let me explain a little about how my car club, and many others
in the Baltimore area, run their shows and where the money goes.
My club, Lost In The '50s Custom Car Club Of Maryland, sponsors three
shows each year. One show benefits the Salvation Army's Christmas
Programs. The second is for a troop of handicapped Boy Scouts, and the
third is held for the Special Olympics kids. Our fee is $8 if you
pre-register and $10 at the show. Aside from expenses, ALL the money
goes directly to the local charity. Also, any advertising for the show,
flyers, newspaper ads, etc. are paid for by the club.
This holds true for many other clubs in the Maryland area. Heart Of
Maryland Classic Chevy Club just held their 8th Annual show to benefit
the Alzheimers Association. The Westside Cruisers had their 6th Annual
show to benefit the Kennedy-Kreiger Institute at Johns Hopkins today,
Sept. 24th. The "Street Cars Of Desire" club had a show to benefit the
"Children's House" at Hopkins and they also have the biggest indoor show
on the East Coast to benefit another charity. These are just a few of
the shows that happen here every year for various charities. Thousands
and thousands of dollars are raised every year by local clubs for local
charities.
To be sure, there are shows that benefit only the sponsors. Unless
you're a "trophy hunter", avoid them. I do! I enjoy my cars, I enjoy the
people in the hobby, and I really like using my car, (along with other
hobbyists), to benefit the community. Trophies are just dust collectors.
I have a couple of boxes full of trophies and plaques. All of them put
together don't help anyone, including myself. Over the last several
years I just put my registration form on the windshield with a big "DO
NOT JUDGE" written on it.
I do not know of any cruise spot in the Baltimore-Washington DC area
that charges a fee to "cruise the lot", so to speak. The Friday and
Saturday night cruises are just for fun. I'd also avoid any place that
charges to "cruise".
The $80 entrance fee for the "Route 66" show is very expensive for a
four day show. "Cruisin' Ocean City", here in Maryland, costs $35 for a
four day event. Last Spring there were over 4000 cars there. Not too
shabby!
I guess it's like everything else-"Different strokes for different
folks", but I'd rather put my entrance fee into a charity than into a
promoter's pocket! Wild Bill

Bob,
Could you please list the following:
I have various pieces of Nomad stainless. I have the pieces that go around

the doors and the rear side windows. I am asking $30 per piece. These are

good used pieces. I would not sell a piece that I would not buy myself. I

have a set of 14 different pieces [ top of door, inner and outer door
frame,
and the stainless to complete the long side windows (4 pieces) for both
left
and right]. The cost for the 14 piece set is $250. (plus shipping)
Or some enterprising chevy nut could make me an offer for the lot of about
50
pieces, polish them up and turn a buck. I will also take trades for '57
Nomad stuff that I need.
E-mail me at marecon@aol.com with any questions.
thanx
Bruce in Pittsburgh, PA

Also, Bob you do an outstanding job with this list. This is the only
reason
I log on. Please take a bow for I applaud your effort.

for 57 belairs b01r and b40r are the part nos. for tapered bearings.
any other car that uses b01r and b40r will interchange
with the 57. i think 56 is same as 57.
b01 and b40 without the R means normal bearings. r means roller bearing.
if the car took a b01 or b40 it will also take b01r and b40r (roller).

In NW Ohio and NE Indiana, most of our shows are $8.00; one exception is
Muddy River Run ($20.00) and there are a few other exceptions.
If you want to keep the car in the garage and drive it periodically, that
is fine; if you want to pay a few dollars and enjoy looking at some
beautiful craftsman ship, that's fine, if you want to do something else
with
you money, that's fine also. In other words, car shows are not like taxes;

you are not required to go.

I have been on both sides of the shows; there is a tremendous amount of
time
AND money to put a show together. Yes, we get sponsors, but they get tired

of being asked and many times, they so not always cover all the expenses.

If you enjoy the shows, pay the money and enjoy them; otherwise stay at
home
and watch TV.

Warren

in response to paying for car shows

i belong to crusin classics in new jersey we are a club of 70+ members
we hold three big shows a year. each show has dash plaques and trophys
($$$)
each shows requires much time to go to other shows to put flyers in all
the cars ($$$)
every car gets an envelope with type of car on the front and owner
(packet$$$)
we sponsor buddy ball & britanny rodio foundation for one of them,
every month the treasurer reads the monies in our account and i can tell
you there is no one making profit from our club & i will bet that most
other clubs are the same way

Hi Bob. I have a question maybe you are the list members can answer
for
me.
I have the frame out from under my 57 an would like to clean it up to
paint.
I know it can be sand blasted, but is there any chemicals that can remove

the rust? I seen some spray on stuff that say's it turns rust into primer.

Has any body used anything like this?Acid dipping is not an option. Their
is
no one in the area that does this. What do you guy's think my best choice
would be.
Thanks For Your help.
Don 9802@aol.com

Editor's note. There is a man at the Long Beach Swap Meet that sells Blue
Lighting Rust Remover
and I bought a gallon. It will remove rust down to be bare metal. You
just spray it on. It cost about $25 per gallon. Just a note of caution.
When you remove rust, you must then put primer or something else on or the
water in the air will cause the metal to rust again. I hope the body shop
pros on this list will comment on rust removal.

BOB On the subject of paying entry fee`s to show your classic auto may
be ok as long as its reasonable , the most we pay in Nebraska is $20.00
thats enough as far as that goes.If you do 12-15 shows over summer ??
adds up.I see in old cars weekly that Greenbay WI. is doing away with
trophy and judging,in its place is a 1st - 2nd - 3rd place drawing for
cash prizes. Now to me that makes sence , instead of busting your butt
trying to out do the frame off restoration next to your ORIGINAL car ,
you stand equal chance of going home with a few bucks in the pocket.
That would take the pressure off and every one can relax and just have
fun. I hope this method of showing catches on country wide. Thanks Bob
for the BEST chevy list ever!! Sincerely Ernie @ the

Maybe I'm cheap but I hate to pay for car shows when the public can walk in
for free. I don't mind helping a chairity out but the public should do the
same . As a whole we should stay away from these events . Maybe we
could pay to get in but just general admission the same as the public .
Does anybody have any thought's on this subject ? BOB.

Hi Bob, I thought The OLDER FORMAT for listing "cars for sale" was MUCH
easier to read & understand !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Any other comments or
opinions on this??? Or am I the only one who thinks so???? Thanks for
accepting for what may be just my opinion !!!! Also how about keeping us
readers informed about how YOUR 57 wagon is coming along? I'm sure there
are
many of us readers who would like to keep up on our EDITORS
project!!!!!!!!!
Thanks a bunch!!!!!! Richard

Editor's note. I sent the cars for sale list out just as it was sent to me
and some people had problems with the last few postings. I think I solved
the problems and I will edit future cars for sale lists to resolve these
formatting problems. If you get the cars for sale list and it is fouled
up, please let me know.

You may have noticed the last few posting I sent out were not the same as
they usually were. I guess I was in shock this month. Someone stole my
car on Aug 30th. I left it at a Blue Line train station and took the
train to downtown LA. When I got back it was gone. It is hard to describe
the feeling you get when you first realize your car is gone. Your first
thought is "this just can not be". I left it here. What is that Mustang
doing parked where I left my car?

The police told me it is either on a boat to Japan, in Mexico, or more
likely cut up in parts. They told me the odds of getting it back in one
piece are almost zero.

This month I have been dealing with my insurance company. What another
unpleasant experience. I hope to get this resolved soon but dealing with an
insurance company, you never know. I will let you know what happens.

Sorry to carry on so long about my problems.
