Bob- Bummer about your car I had a motorcycle ripped off once and it is a
very bad feeling. Hope it works out. I agree with Hugh about hot rodding
and
how it has changed. Where I live there are some real cars but I see alot of

garage queens and hondas and acuras which the owners identify as hot rods.
To
me a hot rod is a car like in Two Lane Blacktop, no bs just power and
speed.
But everyone has their own boat to float so I figure whatever as I blow by
them in my wife's good old Chevrolet (Chevelle built in my garage-including

my first paint job). I am beginning a 56 210 project and look forward to
the
advice of your members as this is my first tri-five project and the 3rd car
I
have built. So far I have the car stripped and I have a fresh 454 and a
muncie m-21. I have little respect for people who think they are cool in
their hot rods but can not check the oil in them. Wish I could come to your

party Bob sounds terrific and hope it is a good time. Thanks for the
list!~Randy McCoy, Seattle.

Editor's note.
Someone sent me the video of Two Lane Blacktop. If you are into hot rods,
I am sure you will like it.
Does anyone know which one of the Beach Boys was in that movie? Watching
that movie I kept saying that guy sure looks like XXXXX Wilson. When I
checked the credits, sure enough it was. However there is no Beach Boys
music in the movie.

I couldn't believe it when I read that your car was STOLEN! My 56 210 wagon

is my daily driver and I dread the day that I might go out to the parking
lot and find it stolen! It's not perfect and has its share of pits and
dings
but it's my pride and joy. I guess the odds are against it being recovered,

but you never know..... I sure hope they find the #*%&@ that took it!
Classy56@hotmail.com

Editor's note. I think the word that best describes the feeling when you
discover your car has been stolen is violated. I urge list members to be
sure they have "stated value" insurance and some anti theft device on their
car. The police told me that if a thief wants your car bad enough, there
is nothing you can do to prevent it being stolen. If you car is your pride
and joy, as most of our cars are, they suggest you install a Lojack or some
similar device. Cars with a Lojack will be recovered and the thief caught
in 99 percent of the cases.

Hello from Northern California Bob, Thank you for your site Bob it's
outstanding. This is a response to Grant Morris's posting on car shows and
the high price to get your car into them along with a gate charge for the
public. Yes, it's great for any community and I'm all for that. During the
'70's, '80's, and '90's. I showed a '46 Chevy Sedan Delivery. Bone stock
and restored as close as I could afford. I was in a National Chevy Club so
it was judge in the concourse classes. It did real well and alot of smiles
were on my family faces at all of the shows. This was in the L.A. area. The
car was also shown in the big shows, Los Angles and the Anaheim Convention
Centers. These were, at the time, put on by big promoters like R.G. Canning
and others. I had it in so many shows that I got to looking around and
though that I have to pay to get my car into the shows, pay for parking and
be there every day to dust off the car. You do get a nice trophy, but I got
turned off a little by all of the work. And someone would make large sums
of money on the work that I and the others like me did. So now I don't take
any of my cars to show unless the profits are going to a good cause ( ie.
charities ). Did you know that the very large shows pay the state of the
art custom builders to show their cars or they wave the entrance fee. And I
do enough subsidizing already. So I don't go to the large money maker shows
anymore. Sorry I'm so down on those kind of shows, there is just so many
other kinds of shows around that make me happy. And that what's it's all
about, isn't it. Thanks Bob, Your the best. Bruce Matthews

Hey Bob...

Don't know how many six-cylinder fans there are out there...I know I'm not,
I've got a '93 LT-1/TH700 going into my '57 Handyman to take the place of
the ol' Blue Flame, hence, the reason for this Email.

This '57 235 engine has 100, 000 miles, and is complete and original except
for an aftermarket air cleaner. It doesn't smoke and always started up when
I hit the key. It has the optional oil filter and comes complete with the
original 3-speed trans and a good clutch, pressure plate and throwout
bearing. I'm asking $250 for the whole thing. I live 30 miles west of
Pittsburgh on the Pa./West Va. line, if interested please contact me at
chas108@3rdm.net .

BTW...Thanks to info obtained from this list, I was able to get a title for
my '57 210 2-door sedan, which enabled me to sell the car! The new owners
picked it up today...special thanks to Jim and Linda Riggs for your info on
Broadway Title Company!

Bob,
You're too good to us!!! I can't believe you're taking the time to layout
the 'Cars For Sale' the way you have. I'm sure this list takes up enough of

your time already. In fact, it bothered me that people were asking you to
do
a better job on the 'Cars For Sale'. Some people do not realize the work
you
put in to this list. I don't even know myself, but I appreciate all you do,

especially for FREE. I would never think of asking you to change anything.
That should be totally up to you.
I'm sure the majority of the list members do realize and appreciate what
you do for us. I wish I didn't live clear across the country from you,
because I would love to go to your upcoming get together and meet 'The Man
Behind The List".So, keep up the great work Bob!

Bob,

I am so sorry to here about you car being stolen. I have been there and
know what you are going through. You will either have a great experience
with the insurance company or a horrible one. There doesn't seem to be a
middle ground. Hemmings Motor News has a section in the back of their
monthly magazine that you can list your stolen car in with a phot. This
goes
out to several hundred thousand car lovers around the world. If there is
anything I can do for you in Florida... let me know.

Roger Francis

Editor's note. Thanks for the idea Roger. I will give it a try.

Hi Bob,
Regarding your stolen car, it happens all the time. Not much you can
do about it either, except fight the insurance company for the money. If
a thief wants your car there's nothing that will deter him from taking
it. Probably the best thing is the arm that goes from the brake pedal to
the steering column or a hidden switch in the ignition circuit.
A dealer near me has had several cars stolen over the last few years.
Even with all the lights, video cameras, and a security guard, they
managed to steal cars from the lot.
I, personally, have had three cars stolen over the years. One, a
Corvair, was stolen right from the dealers lot after it had been
serviced. Another Corvair was stolen from a tavern parking lot in the
time it took me to go in and buy a 6 pack to go. Another one was a '67
Plymouth VIP that was 20 years old at the time. I was lucky in that all
three were recovered within 24 hours. They were taken by "joy riders",
as they're called here.
My wife's '66 LeMans was stolen from a parking lot, next door to
where she worked, in 1969. She'd left the car with the lot attendant, on
her lunch hour, to be washed. When she came back from lunch the car was
gone! She got it back about a week and a half later. The thief had
evidently figured on keeping it for a while. The car had brand new tires
on it and had been given a tune-up! It also had almost 2000 miles added
to the odometer. I don't know where the thief went with the car in a
week and a half but he had to be short. There was a telephone book and a
pillow on the driver's seat, to prop him up, and the seat was all the
way forward. Other than the ignition switch there was no damage to the
car. Sometimes we get lucky! Wild Bill

Bob,
I am really sorry about the loss of your car - although I have never been
there, I can appreciate somewhat how you feel. Hope you are able to settle

with your insurance company.
I have not had a car stolen, but I have had a claim on my classic. I use
Hagerty Insurance (advertises in OLD CARS WEEKLY and other places), and
they
told me to get it fixed and send the bill directly to them. I did and
haven't heard a word since then. Insurance is from dollar one and includes

my extra parts in the event someone breaks into my garage.

I don't know the other insurance companies - just that I have been very
pleased with Harerty - Price is VERY reasonable.

don

try an electric drill with a stiff wire wheel. cheapest and best way. you
will (eventually) get rid of all the rust.

putting chemicals on may leave residue and perhaps attack the metal.
many rust removers (perhaps even the one Bob mentions below) are mainly
acid. you will have a mess trying to clean it all off.

if the rust is mainly a little orange color on the frame it's not so bad
actually. you can paint right over it. but if the rust falls off when you
touch it i would be careful. was the frame out in the open for years? has
it been weakened?

i'd paint it with 2 part black epoxy or industrial alkyd enamel.

gary

b01r and b40r are the part numbers. r stands for roller bearing.
many companies make these. any parts store that has bearings can order
them except perhaps NAPA and large chains. go to a 'real' parts store or
high performance place.

i think you are referring to the two-part welded frame? while some people
may prefer the so called 'California frame that is one-piece they are
both just as strong and will perform in exactly the same way.

Count me in with my '55 Cameo. Can I also bring an antique Chevy fan from
New Zealand who will be visiting that week?

Remember our ALL CHEVY SHOW at Guaranty Chevrolet in Santa Ana on October
7!
We have not seen your show entry nor your membership application yet but
are
certain they must be on the way.

Sorry to hear about your stolen car. Since you did not mention the make or

year I assume it was your driver and not a 55-57 Chevrolet product.
