Please post the following on the list though...

Does anyone know if there used to be a girls version or answer to the wolf
whistle that guys used to use in their cars? I know of a cool website that

you can check out called www.lonewolfwhistle.com. Also, ebay has them.
Just go to www.ebay.com and search for wolf whistle in the search box.
Here
are some more links I found with the wolf whistle for sale.

I thought there was a whistle that girls would use. If anyone knows of
such
a thing please email me! Thankyou.

Custom or modified poll?

My wife and I have a two, a 57 150 Handyman which is modified, and a 57
sport sedan (apart) which is mostly stock, until I get it back together.

My personal preference is for modified cars to actually enjoy the time
driving, and replaceability of parts.

I hope that the people that are offering their cars for $40K are getting
it,
but my gut says that since it's free to list it on the Internet, sit back
and
wait to see if somebody on this planet will contact them, then what do they

have to lose. Now if they really need the money more than they need the
car,
they're going to take less than what they think it's worth. And that's how
the market works.
I suggest that these cars be categorized by prices. When I look through the

list there's just no reason for me to look at anything over $10,000. I
bought
my 56 fixer upper for $2250.00 and have spent another $2,000 so far. I
don't
ever want to have to sell it, but I'm realistic enough to know that one day

(probably very soon), I won't get back the money I've put into it. I also
know I'll get a lot more enjoyment out of it than any new car on the market

today, no matter what the cost.
Thanks for the website, lists, and forum Bob. It's all good.

Bob,
Thankyou for allowing me to join the 57-56-55 Chevy List. This certainly is
a very valuable service you provide. I have restored 57 Chevys and feel
that
I can offer assistance to others and look forward to advice from the
members. I am currently changing a 57 Chevy from a six cylinder to a V-8
and
will sure be in need of advice and parts. Thanks again.

Last fall I bought a 55 Chevy 210 2 door sedan that has a Muncie M-20 and
327
in it. The Competition Plus needed rebuilding so while it was away ar Hurst
I pulled
the trans and ordered a complete rebuild kit for it. Everything worked
EXCEPT the 3rd and
4th gear blocking rings. In previous Muncie rebuilds I have found that all
four blocking
rings are the same but in this trans., I had to have the rings for 3rd &
4th machined so they
would work (I hope, it's still on jack stands). Has anyone ever run into
this problem
with aMuncie before.
The case markings are as follows:
Top front of case: 7A153763
Side cover: 383707
Opposite side cover in case: Patent 3088336
and in case is 3885010
Stamped on Rt. side rear of case: P7B15
Also a large "5" near rear of rt. side of case.
That's about all I can tell you. Any help will be appreciated!

Happy New Year Bob and Everybody,

I saw the end of a piece on the TV show My Classic Car about a product to
use on the windows glass of your classic car. I have some scratches I
would
like to get rid of (short of replacing the glass) and would really like to
know what to use and where to get it.

In response to the stock/custom survey:

I have a 57 Chevy Belair 2 dr hardtop (turquoise and white) that has been
completely restored (started Feb. 1, 2000 and drove it to Hot August Nights
in Reno). The body is totally stock. The interior is custom naugahide
done
in the original pattern. The engine is a ZZ4 350ci, 355hp with HEI
electronic ignition and a Holly 650 carburetor. The transmission is a
700R4. I installed power steering and power front brakes and a custom
exhaust system.

Bob,

Like one of the other readers on the list, I must have missed the one
asking
about what type of car we have. I have a 1956 210 2 door that is the same
as
the one I had in High School. I learned to drive to on my dad's 55 210
DelRay in the late 60's and quickly developed a liking for these cars. I
sold my 1st 56 in 1972 and have recently acquired another 56 210 in Sept.
1999. I am in the process of restification ( a term from Super Chevy
Magazine ) and plan to use the car as a summer driver here in Indiana. I
have
a picture of the car on the website of the car club I belong to at
civv.freeservers.com/photo.html. Mine is the Turquiose and India Ivory 56.

Any car buffs in central Indiana are invited to join. I recently installed
a
350 cu in engine and Muncie M-21 four speed in the car, but will keep the
stock appearance on the outside and interior. The only modifications
planned
from stock are drive train and suspension.

Regarding the car without a VIN:
As mentioned by previous posts there is a VIN stamped on the frame
basically where the driver's seat area is. You should contact the state
you plan to register it in and check with the motor vehicle department.
They will probably want you to bring the car and all documentation with
you.

If they can verify the VIN and are happy with the documentation they most
likely will give you a state issued VIN and that will hence force be the
VIN for the car.

If you attach a new VIN plate and later have it inspected you have a
definite risk of losing your car for having a bad VIN plate.

If you don't have a title you (or you can pay a company) can seek an
abandoned vehicle/lost title claim and seek a new title. Some posts here
on Bob's list have claimed good results with these firms.

It is too late now but I wouldn't touch a car and do anything to it
without assurance that I can get a good title for the car. The risks are
too great and expensive to do anything else.

Hay BOB and ALL,
I have a friend that has a modified 1956 BelAir who is about to change
his original front brakes to Disc Brakes. He would like to get some advise
from someone who has already done this as to what kits are best, what
problems to expect, what newer cars could he get parts from, etc.? He
also want to know if he uses a kit is it possible to know were the parts
within the kit are from (like rotors from a 1972 Chevelle).

Please send your reply to Bob's list and to me at
kfmartel@collins.rockwell.com or marty28447@aol.com

Thanks, Kim

The reason I'm asking for you ro reply to both Bob's list and to me is
that a lot of questions asked on the list never have answers posted on the
list because the answers are only sent to the address of the person asking
the question. Any question that is properly answered and posted on the
list is something I always print out and save and I think others list
members would like to see this also.

Thanks Bob for the great effort, your newsletter is a godsend. I have a
question for you and our fellow enthusiasts. Many times I see interesting
tech questions and look forward to the collective wisdom of our audience,
but many readers, myself included, sometimes feel inclined to write back
directly to the inquirer and the rest of us suffer, never knowing that
remedy, that nifty trick. How about everyone posting their answers in this
newsletter, then we all can learn together. What does everyone think?

Hello Everyone,

I am sorry but I must stand on my soap box for a while. I want to buy a
copy of the book "How to Restore Your 57 Chevy" I found it at C.A.R.S. Inc
for $25, then I saw all their outrageous shipping cost which is $13 for any
order up to $100. That makes the book $38. I emailed them to verify this. I
really expected them to say to a first time customer they would reduce the
shipping for just one item. Instead I got no response at all. They had been
my first choice for buying my sheet metal parts I had planned to buy late
next summer. Because they did not answer their email I am going to keep
looking. By the way I need the full rh and lh floor pieces, full trunk,
bottom of both doors and some brackets. Around $1500.
Next came CCI, they had the book for $27, that's the non-member price.
Their shipping cost is a higher then average $8.00 for orders up to $50. To
make the most of my money I ordered 3 parts for about $48. I got my first
part in about a week and the other two were backordered, a week later I got
my second part which had already been opened and was missing parts. I am
still waiting on my book. Would someone like to explain to me why I should
pay $30 a year to pay the same price everyone else charges for no annual
fee? I am very glad I did not pay to "join" CCI.
What has happened to Service, I would think classic car dealers have a
limited market and should do everything they can to attract new customers.
I have not ordered from "Cliff's Chevy" yet but hang in there Cliff I will.
I like his style, he has answered several of my questions along with his
prices of related parts. That is a smart businessman who is working for our
money, I like that. I am going to start looking for the Cliff's out there
who I feel will give better service. Ok I am off my soap box now.

I bought the movie "Vanishing Point" I watched it once and don't care for
it. It is advertised in alot of car catalogs for about $20. I bought mine
at Sam's Club. I got two different tapes for $10.00 Anybody want to buy my
viewed once Vanishing Point for $5. plus $13.00 shipping just kidding
shipping would be $3.00. That's $8.00 for the tape delivered just email me
if anyone is interested.

Thanks for your time. I have to go put my soap box up now.

55-56-57 hood hinges were cad plated from the factory. If you are going
to
modify the car you may paint, powder coat etc. What needs to be done is to
rebuild the hinges.
They are worn from years of use. I offer a hinge rebuilding service which

includes:
!. Disassembly and glass beading of the hinges.
2. Metal repair and oversize of the rivet holes.
3. Cad, Chrome, Or the coating you prefer.
4. Reassembly using oversize rivets with correct markings.
Cad plated hinges are 150.00 pair exchange. Chromed plated hinges with
chromed rivets are 425.00 pair exchange. If you prefer your hinges back
that
is OK.
Reproduction 55-56 hinges are in stock to, But they are not made in
America.
When working on the hinges do not use any lubrication on them. Doing This

will keep the hinge from holding the hood up.
I also offer heavy duty hood springs for those who don't want to rebuild
their hinges at a cost of 30.00 a pair. I have these special made to my
specifications.

To Lenny, Good luck this weekend on the World of Wheels Show. My
philosophy
is take my Claasic and have fun. And if I win its a bonus.

A lot of good feedback on the prices of 55-56-57's. I agree with Wild Bill,

It amazes me why anyone would be offended by a price of an auto, Oh well.

Well, Spring is coming and that means drag racing starts up out west. My 56

race car is ready for another season of racing. Yahoo!!!!!!

Hi everyone, since we are or were sharing about our cars, I will go ahead
and describe mine. This is Henry McDougall in San Antonio TX and I am 20
years old and attending college at UTSA. I am the proud owner of a
burgundy
and white 55Chevy Bel Air. It is a four door and for those of you keeping
track, it is modified although not enough to be noticed by the average
admiror. It is the only car I actually own and I drive it daily or rather
I
did untill a broken piston convinced me to pull the motor out early last
semester. Not having much time to work on it during school and with my job

and all I am just now reasembling the motor. It is a high performance
327(small journal) now bored .030 over with an Edlebrock Torquer
manifold(2500-6500 power band) Holley 600cfm carb, crane cam(218 dur at
.050, .450 lift with 1.5 rockers, lobe sep of 106. It has hooker long tube

headers with 1 5/8 primaries and flowmaster mufflers. It has a four speed
muncie which I both love and hate, and had 3.70 gears till i busted my
third
set of those and had to go to my last remaining set of gears, 3.36. Time
to
find some more rear ends. My ignition is an MSD 6A with Blaster Coil and
non points distributor (not HEI) with mechanical tach drive. My Chevy is
really plain inside following the down to buisness hot rod style. If it
doesnt make it fast, its not in it. It has flat doorpanels I made with
fiberboard covered in black seamless vinyl, tuck 'n' roll seats, black
vinal
headliner, and black carpet and garnish moldings. The seats themselves are

origonal as replaceing them with anything else would have been "Too fancy"

My 55 may not be all origonal, but is a blast to drive. Its hot and loud
inside and the rupity dupity idle chatters your teeth some, (not quite that

bad) but your only young once.

Hope you enjoyed my description as much as I have enjoyed all the others.
After the wealth of information and great people, they are my favorite
thing
about the list. thanks a bunch Bob for keeping up this great list.

Hi Bob,

I would like to respond to the JimJ's post on Hood Hinges.

If you have your Hinges glass beaded (not sand blasted - even though it
works), they can be Cadium Plated with great results. I had a set done in
1985, they still look great today. It cost me $15 to have both plated (wish
it did now).

I know of other people who did this to the Hinges in their Classics and
theirs still look great today.

Even the Trunk Latches & Mechanisms, Hood Stricker Plates & Mechanisms, and
Door Strickers we had done look excellent.

Thanks. RJ

PS. Wal-Mart sells a can of Silver paint for $.99 that will fool Judges.
I've done it.
It works best if no Primer is sprayed on first. Looks just Like Cad.
Plating, but CHEAPER. The part MUST be clean though.
