Does anybody have any experience with the Borg-Warner T-50 5 Speed trans
that
came out in the 1980's V-8 Monzas? Are they junk? Will they even fit in a

55? Are the gears made out of glass? Actually any info on these would be
appreciated.
Thanks, and I enjoy the list,

How about it everyone, when you reply to a question, could you carbon copy

The vibrator parts cleaners have been around for at least 20 years and used
by firearms enthusiasts to clean their brass. Usually Walnut hulls are
the preferred media. Yes, they work. However, remember, a corroded part
is just that. do not expect miracles. Minor rust and dirt remove\al are
their best use. You might want to check out your local firearms stores for
a comparison of prices. They are the exact same machine (also used for
rock tumbling, check the hobby stores).

Hello everyone on the list,

Here is another option to consider when ordering from vendors.

Over the past 5 years I have been rebuilding a 1957 Chevy truck and always
do comparative shopping. The first thing I did was find out who the major
suppliers are and request a catalog from each. The easiest way is to look
in Hemmings. This is to give me a base reference of what is available for
my particular application (57 Truck). In the beginning I had a very large
list of items I needed, I categorized and itemized the items in my PC,
listed vendor part numbers and prices for each item, then I broke my order
down to which vendor was giving the best price. During the process I
purchased parts from Nevada, California, Pennsylvania, Kansas City,
Maryland and some junk yards in the south west for used parts.

Here on the East coast we have Carlisle in the spring, summer and Fall. It
is one of the largest flea markets on the east coast. I attend the swap
meet every year and bring my list of needed parts. Most vendors bring a
large selection of inventory so you can see the quality of the parts you
are buying and if the vendor did not bring a specific part you want, they
will ship it to you for FREE. If you want to ensure all of the parts are
available you can call the vendor (2-3 weeks prior to the swap meet) and
they will specifically bring your parts to the swap meet.

When I ordered the complete front end disk brake conversion kit, power disk
conversion and 4 monoleaf springs, you know that the freight will be
costly, I was able to purchase the whole kit and have it delivered to my
door from California to Maryland for no extra shipping costs.

If you do your homework and pick the parts up in person at a national swap
meet you can save significant money.
For the little items that I needed I went with the vendor that could
deliver within 3-4 business days and not necessarily ordered based solely
on prices.

I know members of our club have had CCI and Bow Ties deliver their order to
a swap meet they are attending. I have called HMCCC member Mike Drago
(Vendor in Easton, Pennsylvania) early in the morning and have had the
order at my house the next day. Drago's quick turnaround and monthly 15%
off price specials means I almost never order from CCI, Bow Tie or anyone
else.

For the survey I have 1957 Full Custom Truck, and 1955 Full Custom 210 2DR
Sedan I maintain the original body but I always upgrade the mechanical and
electrical systems for ease of replacement if I should ever break down
while cruising.

I just Did my Wife's 56 Nomad with the 2" drop spindles --- Unfortunately,
I
purchased The Power disc kit from Danchuk 18 months ago and Didn't buy the
2" drops at the same time. The New kits have been changed to more readily
available Rotors, Bearings and seals that are available for 79'- 81' Monte
Carlo Body. If you are doing the work Yourself ---- Definitely Buy the
Single piece Machined Spindles. Less parts to worry about the Bolts falling
off of and you still get good fender clearance for wider tires and 15" rims
--- they provide a very good ride and with the Power booster and Dual
Proportioning valve set up to accommodate the rears and they really stop a
big heavy car very nice.

Keep me informed on the changes to the Nomad ---- my wife's car is now a
56'with 90's technology 350 W/700R4 (Matador Red and India Ivory) and we
own
a 56'Bel Air Sport Coupe to match the Nomad.

Does anyone know of a place that makes new Cowl Tags for the 56's ??? I
have
heard that someone in Texas makes them but I have been unable to find
anyone.

Our policy on shipping prices is actual shipping charge. We recycle boxes

and packing material. This way we do not always have to buy new boxes. I
know that quite a few mail order companies charge for the box.

I am a beer sign collector. Any of you have beer signs for sale? I prefer

motion type, Hamm's or whatever.

Few of my cars: 55 Belair 2 door sedan. Frame off in 1980. 355 with a 4
speed.
55 sedan delivery. Nice low mile car with 235 and a 4 speed. Power disc
brakes.

56 2 door HT. 265 2 barrel with PG. Solid Ivory with Black and White
interior. 104,000 original miles. Spotted this car 26 years ago and finally

bought it from the original owner.
56 convertible 265 2 barrel PG. Pinecrest Green and Ivory. Nice driver.
This
car was used in the Warner bros. picture about Steve Prefontane.

57 Belair 4 door sedan. 31,000 original miles. 283 and PG. Harbor and
Larkspur Blue. Very nice car. I was surprised when I won the 1993 Forest
Grove Concour's 1st in the 55-56-57 class. And Best of Show for original
unrestored. My 57 was placed with 17 other unrestored classics of different

makes and models.

57 Belair 2 door ht. 283 power pack with overdrive. White with Black and
Silver interior. Very fun car. I am the Third owner on this 57.

Trying to find the time to finish one of my pickups. 56 Big Window short
stepside. A frame off is about 80% complete. It sports a tri-powered 327
with
a Muncie 4-speed. The color is Black with Two shades of Maroon upholstery.
I
am building this as a semi custom.

I enjoy both stock and modified classics.

Editor's note. Is Hamms beer still being made. I have not heard of it for

My 1955 265 V8 seems to be missing a breather tube at the rear of the
engine.
It looks like a 1.5" diameter hole in the top of the block has a rubber
doughnut in it with a .5" diameter hole. A PCV valve might fit nicely.
Should a draft tube be there? I have read about a factory optional closed
crankcase ventilation system, would it have used a PCV valve?

Here is a little test of your old car knowledge. Both Caddy and
Continental at one time had a "small car" model. These models were
produced
after the 1950s. What was the name of these models?

Bob, Here's a wild stab !!!!!!!! How about the Lincoln "Versaille" and

the Cadillac "Cimmaron" ???????????????????? Richard

Editor's note. Richard, you got it. I think both of these cars were flops.

Dear Bob, looking for an answer about a small block chevy in my `56 210
wagon. It`s not stock, while replacing the oil pan gasket I noticed forged
pistons and decided to get out the tape measure. The piston diameter is
4".The block I believe is a 283 because it has a crank case vent tube
behind
the distributor. It`s also a 2 bolt main. I guess the question is if the
stroke on the crank is factory for 283ci what `s the total displacement. I
was told that the 350ci has 4" pistons. Thanks, Al.

Hi, Bob and fellow list members. I recently bought the new CD about the 55
Chevy from Bowtieguy. Its called "The Ultimate 1955 Chevrolet Literature
Library". I got my copy this week and it is amazing. Its crammed full of
information on the 55. I have been buying and collecting 55 ads, Chevy
sales
material and books on the 55 for a long time. This CD had info I'd never
seen
before or had always wanted but never been able to purchase, like a 55
Dealers
Album. It also has all 7 of the Chevy Service News and 3 of the Body by
Fisher
Service News publications. It also has 8 Chevy promotional movies with
sound.
This is only a small part of what's contained on the CD. There's a web site
that lists everything and how to purchase it at :

http://classicchevys.50g.com/cd.htm

The CD is set up to present all the info inside your web browser(Netscape /
Explorer) which makes it very easy to use since its just like surfin. All
the
scans of the originals have been done at a high resolution and are very
clear
on the screen. In summary I'm impressed with the content and quality of
this CD
and very glad I purchased this addition to my Chevy Reference material. Oh
by
the way the price is a steal as he will have it delivered to your door for
less
than $25 in the US. I recommend it highly and want to thank Bowtieguy for
taking the time to build this CD for us.

Bob, thanks for all you do to keep this list going!

Bob, keep up the great work. I have 2 modified 210 4 door Chevy. wagons.
Both
run 350-350 combos with lots of chrome inside and out. One is Matador Red &

India Ivory, the other is Sherwood Green & India Ivory. My question is in
regards to Wagon Clubs. Does anyone know what ever happened to the National

Station Wagon Owners Assn.? (StaWagons@aol.com) I joined in '99 and
received
a few newsletters then nothing. Also tried CHEVYWAGON.COM, and keep getting

Take a step back...

Take a stroll with me. . .
close your eyes . . .
and go back . . .
before the Internet . . .
before semiautomatics and crack . . .
before SEGA or Super Nintendo . . .
wayback . . .

I'm talking about sitting on the curb, sitting on the stoop, about hide
and go seek, Simon Says, Red light - Green light. Lunch boxes with a
thermos.

Chocolate milk, going home for lunch, penny candy from the store,
hopscotch, butterscotch, skates with keys, Jacks, Hula Hoops and
sunflower seeds, wax lips and mustaches, Mary Janes, saddle shoes and
Coke bottles with the names of cities on the bottom. Running through the
sprinkler, circle pins, bobby pins, Mickey Mouse Club, Rocky & Bullwinkle,
Kookla, Fran & Ollie, Spin & Marty . . . all in black & white.

When around the corner seemed far away, and going downtown seemed like
going somewhere. Climbing trees, making forts, backyard shows, lemonade
stands, Cops and Robbers, Cowboys and Indians, staring at clouds, jumping
on the bed, pillow fights, ribbon candy, angel hair on the Christmas tree,
Jackie Gleason, white gloves, walking to the movie theater, running till
you were out of breath, laughing so hard that your stomach hurt. Remember
that?

Not stepping on a crack or you'll break our mother's back . . . paper
chains at Christmas, silhouettes of Lincoln and Washington ...the smell
of paste in school and Evening in Paris. What about the girl who dotted
her "i's" with hearts? The Stroll, popcorn balls, & sock hops.

Remember when . . .there were two types of sneakers for girls and boys
(Keds & PF Flyer) and the only time you wore them at school was for
"gym."

And the girls had those ugly gym uniforms. When it took five minutes for
the TV to warm up. When nearly everyone's Mom was at home when the kids
got home from school. When nobody owned a purebred dog. When a quarter
was a decent allowance, When you'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny.
When your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces. When all of your male
teachers wore neckties and female teachers had their hair done, everyday
and wore high heels.

When you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas
pumped, without asking, all for free, every time. And, you didn't pay
for air. And, you got trading stamps to boot!

When laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden inside the
box.
When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at a
real restaurant
with your parents. When they threatened to keep kids back a grade if they
failed and did!

When the worst thing you could do at school was smoke in the bathrooms,
flunk a test or chew gum. And the prom was in the auditorium and you
danced to an orchestra. When a '57 Chevy was everyone's dream car
to cruise in, peel out, lay rubber or watch submarine races, and people
went
steady and girls wore a class ring with an inch of wrapped Band-Aids,
dental
floss or yarn coated with pastel frost nail polish so it would fit her
finger. And
no one ever asked where the car keys were because they were always in the
car, in the ignition, and the doors were never locked.

Remember lying on your back on the grass with your friends and saying
things like "That cloud looks like a . . . " And playing baseball with
no adults to help kids with the rules of the game.

Remember when stuff from the store came without safety caps and hermetic
seals because no one had yet tried to poison a perfect stranger.
And with all our progress .....don't you just wish, just once, you could
slip
back in time and savor the slower pace .... and share it with the
children of today... When being sent to the Principal's Office was
nothing compared to the fate that awaited the student at home.

Basically, we were in fear for our lives, but it wasn't because of drive
by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc. Our parents and grandparents were a much
bigger threat! But we survived because their love was greater than the
threat.

So send this on to someone who can still remember Nancy Drew, The Hardy
Boys, Laurel & Hardy, Howdy Doody and The Peanut Gallery, The Lone
Ranger, The Shadow Knows, Nellie Belle, Roy and Dale, Trigger and
Buttermilk .... as well as the sound of a reel mower on Saturday morning,
and
summers filled with bike rides, baseball games, bowling and visits to the
pool
....and eating Kool-Aid powder with sugar.

Didn't that feel good, just to go back and say, "Yeah, I remember
that....."
