Refer to the 02/04/01 cars for sale list:

Santee, CA $80,000.00
1955 CHEVROLET BEL AIR, black, over $80000 invested in 3 yr. frame
off restoration (over $45000 in parts alone), new 350/350, power
brakes/steering, 5 core aluminum radiator, remote entry, power

Some one please explain to me how one can spend over $80,000 restoring a
car? For that price it should come with a fully outfitted shop to work on
it in! Here's my
dream car:
55 bel air hard top decent shape say $5,000
Get the body work done and painted perfect $10,000
Chris Alston custom chassis with air ride suspension $7,500
GM Ram Jet 502 fuel injected crate engine $7,995
Built 700R4 trans $2,500
Custom interior $10,000
Wheels tires $2,500
Extra $5,000 for kicks
Total $50,495 with $30,000 to spare and my car would be slightly tougher
than the 350 with stock suspension above.

You know, I've also been wondering what happened to James (Chevy156). I
haven't seen his name anywhere lately.
I still would like to know what color the original 3speed overdrive
transmissions were painted from the factory. I would like to blast mine
and
paint it before installation. I got not even 1 reply on this topic, but
I'm
sure if I asked a question on installing 350's and disk brakes and hacking
this and hacking up that, I would have gotten a ton of responses. Does no
one know or even care about the original construction of these vehicles?

Hi all... last week I met yet another person who SWORE that his dad
used to own a genuine 1957 Chevy Impala....

And yes, this guy WAS aware that the Impala was first manufactured
in 1958, but he SWORE that this was a "special" car given to the
retiring manager of the assembly plant, yadda yadda....
Supposedly someone "stole" a few "prototype" Impala emblems out
of the design department and stuck them on an end-of-the-model-run
57....

Okay, I know enough about cars to know there were a FEW "COPO"
non-standard options installed at the plant or by dealerships, but is
there
any REAL documentation of a 57 sneaking out the door wearing Impala
trim?

The real "kicker" was the guy a few years ago that swore his dad had a
57 "Impala" with a "prototype" 327 ENGINE and an automatic shifter in the
floor. "Straight out of the factory", he said....

Bob, some info for the next newsletter; The California politicians are
again
going after collector cars in years '66-'73. There is a new twist whereby
the
California Utilities will get smog credit from the crushing of more cars.
Please go to the following website http://www.smogrfg.com and become
enlightened as well as get involved. If there is success with '66-'73, you
can bet the classic years will be close behind.

electric cars in California.

I am converting a 58 Impala over to 605 power steering and I need a p.s.
pump pulley that is about 4 to 4.5 in diameter or smaller. The pump
supplied with the kit is a pre 1980 GM pump that has a key way on the
shaft.
I have located pulleys for the later model press on pumps but I cant find
one for the bolt on with a keyway. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx in advance

Hi Bob,

Reading CJ Wilson's post reminded me of a guy who lives near me.

Years ago, he "CLAIMED" to have a '57 Chevy Prototype. He called it a
"Black
Block." Said it was proto 327, and was FACTORY INSTALLED. Even had 327
emblems on the Front Fenders.

I (and others) always thought it was bunch of BS. Other than this guy
telling us this, he could not prove any of it.

If he'd been the Original Owner of the car, it would have helped make his
story more believable, but he got the car from some guy QUITE a few years
younger than him.

Thanks. RJ

PS. Manual Tranny's were painted? I thought they were natural (meaning no
paint)?

BlankHi Bob And Everybody,
I have a trivia question but I don't have an answer. Why is a pick-up
truck or van called a 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, or 1 ton? These weights certainly
aren't the carrying capacities of the vehicles. One guy told me that the
frames weighed those amounts on those particular trucks or vans. I know
that each step up in rating has heavier tires, springs, and shocks. Where
did the rating numbers come from? Wild Bill

Well its time to build my convertible. I have a rusty ragtop at home and
lots of restoring :-)
I have two ways I can go. I can spend thousands on bodywork and rust repair
and completely rebuild from the piece s I have, or I can buy a nice 2 dr
hardtop. remove the body from the frame..add convertible braces and remove
the roof. The nly major section is to splice in the front windshield..and
add convertible top mounting parts in the back.. Seems I talked to a
gentleman one day about convertible and they are modified hardtops
the other difference is the flat sections on the rear wheel wells..
Anyone have any thoughts and a clean 2 dr ht for sale :-)

Bob and all:

I encountered this neat Web page where you can pull up various auto
graphics
(they have a few Classic Chevys, including my '57 2-door post and my '96
Impala SS), paint it any color, then try on a huge variety of custom
wheels.
I have not done any business with this wheel/tire distributor, and don't
stand to gain anything from referring you all there to check out their
site,
but you must go play with it! Check it out at:
http://www.afftw.com/main.htm.

Click the link (in the upper right-hand corner of the home page) that takes
you to the page where you can view the wheels on cars.

Have fun!

Bob, how could you? A Ford? Actually I bought a new Aerostar in "94. I hate
to admit it but it's the best new vehicle I ever owned. I bought a new

does
