In response to your question about which studio used a picture of the
world with an antenna on the top of it, I believe it was Paramount
Studios.

Bob,
It's hard to start a post without saying "Thanks"
for all the time you put in producing the list. We
all know what a labor of love this is for you, but it
still is hard work.
I believe the movie starting with a radio tower
beaming a signal was "RKO." If I am correct, this
would prove what my father would call my "mis-spent
youth."
Lastly, my advice to the gentleman who wants
restoration help on a '55 4-door Nomad he just
purchased would be: DON'T TOUCH IT! Sell it back to
GM, as is; it should be worth a fortune.
Take care, all. -Delivery Dale

Hi Bob,

The radio tower on the globe was the trademark for Radio Pictures Inc.
which
became R.K.O. Radio Pictures and was eventually absorbed by Paramount
Pictures.

What do I win? (lol)

Don Kent

Editor's note. Since you are in Southern California you win a video of
Ralph Story called "Things that are not here anymore". It is all about Los
Angeles things that are gone. Remember the Red Cars, Pacific Ocean Park,
Corrigan Ranch, etc. Just send me your address and I will send you the
video. I will NOT publish your address on the list.

Bob, I've tried a couple of times to write this note. I'll just trim it
down
to say that those who are interested in dealing with CARB or other agency
over classic cars, needs to make sure that they understand how the
regulations work. I've seen several things written in the list that are
classic examples of how not to deal with a regulatory agency. Please
remember
that I love old cars, too and I'm not defending CARB. If anyone is
interested in hearing more on this, contact me off of the list. I've taken

up enough space here on this issue.

Editor's note.
Jan

I will try to explain about e-mail and text. Other list members can
probably do it better and they are invited to do so. Please check with
your Internet Service Provider if you have questions about how to send just
a text message.

Text is only words. Text does not have other things included in the text
such as commands to a word processor or the INTERNET. If you have received
e-mail that has more than one part, the first part is text and the other
parts are something else. The most usual thing of parts 2,3,4 e-mails are
HTML. This stands for HyperTextMarkupLanguage. This is the system that
allows messages to be displayed as an INTERNET page. This type of message
has text included in it but it has many commands that tells the INTERNET
how to display a message. When I get these type of messages, I have to save
them in a word processor file and edit out all of the INTERNET commands.

Please let me know if this makes sense to you.

Ed,
Welcome to the list. There is no such thing as a 55' 4 door Nomad, so I
hope
you didn't pay too much for the car. As far as restoring it, you need to
tell
us what you want to do. Do you want to restore it to original or are you
going to modify it? Does it have an engine and trans in it? Are they
original? Be more specific with your questions, and I'm sure you will get
plenty of help from this list.

Also, I'm going to install a rear frame shock mount support (the piece

GM forgot) this spring. Have any members had any experience with this
installation? Are they all the same or is one supplier offering a better

R.K.O. Studios used the giant transmitter to lead off their movies, as I
recall.
The gentleman with the 4 door 55 Nomad has a real rarity, and the
difficulty would be finding parts for it as it is a one of a kind.

For Doug Dean and anyone else who remembers the straps under the cars in

Donating old cars to charity?! What kind of idea is that?! Why would
anyone
do that? If you had a Chevy Cavalier or some newer car of the 80's or 90's

that you didn't want anymore, then yes, I can see helping others out with
the
donation of it. But giving away an old car, that's asking for trouble!
You
don't know what is going to happen to it and who's hands it will fall into.

I think this whole pollution thing with old cars sucks! Exactly like Wild
Bill says- how many old cars do you see driving around? The ones you do
see
are restored and in top running condition. What about factory smokestacks
spewing out large amounts of black smoke? Ever get behind a car that
smells
like rotten eggs? That's sulfuric acid fumes, and sulfuric acid is nasty
stuff. Do these points not get seen by legislators? Yes, we need to stand

firm against moron legislators. What kind of hobbies are they into?
Hunting? well that involves guns which kill many many people a year. To
each
his own, but let's look at the facts. Instead of legislators trying to
pass
around BS policies (in doing so using paper, which comes from trees, which
help purify atmospheric air) they should reevaluate (or evaluate for the
first time) what are real sources of pollution. Why is it that in my mind
I
automatically associate politics with crooks, hypocrits, etc, etc?

From: phillip l brown, INTERNET:lybc@earthlink.net

To Bob: RKO had the radio tower.

To Edward Sandoval: I don't know what '55 you have, but if it has 4
doors, as you state, it's not a Nomad. Nomads have two doors and are
special in many other ways, especially in '55 with different rear wheel
opens and fender trim. There were two door non-Nomad station wagons
but only in the 210 and 150 series. The only Bel Air two door wagon
was the Nomad. All series had 4-door wagons.

To Charlie Shew: If you have a 455 Rocket, that's an Oldsmobile
engine. The first 455 Rocket was in '68. Is this an engine that was
transplanted into the '64 Buick? If it is really an Oldsmobile engine,
the starter is on the left side and will probably interfer with your
steering box - better check that out first. I'm also on an Oldsmobile
List (oldsmobile@chebucto.ns.ca) which you might contact to ask
questions about the Rocket 455. I've been on that list for 7-8 months
and from what I've read, there are different things that have to be done
to an Olds engine when rebuilding that are different than a Chevy
engine. I believe, just from things I've read on the list, that Buick
also made a 455, don't know for sure if they did and don't know where
the starter is on a Buick engine and don't know when they made a 455.
Good Luck.

I am putting a TPI setup on my 55 and am using the speed density(MAP)

Camaro and the ECM etc. My question is, does anyone have or know where I
can find a complete wiring diagram which also does away with the pollution
control components? I feel I can figure it out ok, but it would really save
time if someone has already done this.

If you have been on this list a long time, you know I really like 50s
music. Some of the best 50s music was from the Beach Boys. Here is some
very obscure trivia. One of the orginal Beach Boys quit the group shortly
after it was formed because he did not think it would ever become popular.
After a few months he came back and stayed with it until recently. Who was
