Have you seen the latest Classic Chevy Club interior sale? They are
$300-$400 higher than all the rest of the Chevy parts suppliers. It appears

they jack up the original price, then put a sale price on the interior for
what the price already was. Who do they think they are kidding. Am I
wrong
on this?

Hello again Bob, Well after a lot of experimenting I finally got the rust
off
my windows. Thank you to the fellow that recommended the CLR (it did not
even
attempt to remove the film under the rust) What I finally used was
polishing
compound, along with 00 steel wool, I also kept spraying the window with
window cleaner to keep it wet. This worked great. It took everything off .
Some spots were a little stubborn, and had to be gone over more than once,
but it did come off. I then got brave and buffed them out with a sponge pad

on the buffer, and got beautifully clear
glass..............UNFORTUNATELY.........while installing the passenger
side
glass, I had it just about in, when it cracked. end of story!
SO, I am now in need of another passenger side, rear curved E-Z-EYE tint
curved glass from a 5-6-7 4-door wagon.
I know that they are now available new, but they are also quite pricey for
us
drivers on limited budgets. ANY LEADS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Thanks, don

I receive the Bob Ford list and a while back you wrote in that you were
able
to stuff 15X8 rallye's in the back end of your '57 Handyman with 215/70/15
tires. I have several questions and I was wondering if you could answer
them. First, would the same hold true for the '55 H/T? As far as I know,
both the H/T and the 150 series had same rearend housings/leafs/drums/etc.

True? Also, when you measure a 15X8 rallye across its width (from lip to
lip), is this measurement really 8" or is it greater than 8"? I know Chevy

truck rims are wider by 1" (1/2" each end that account for the lip of the
rim). Did you ever try your 15X8 rallyes with 60 series tires? Did it
work? Any help would be appreciated.

Question for the 57 chevy troops, and this maybe a repeat but here
goes.What
are the parts and procedures for installing a 700r4-non ECM transmission?
Lowest cost for
the transmission out of any salvage yards is $400 locally, any ideas.
Thanks Again,
billomaha@home.com

Editor's note. I installed a 700R4 on my 57. Many vendors have a complete
kit with all the parts
you need to make the change. I suggest getting the latest 700R4 that is
not electronic. The newer ones are better than the first ones.

You will probably invest about $500 to $700 for the kit and installation.
Looking back, I now think you would have to drive a lot of miles to recover
the cost of a 700R4 in gas savings.

Bob,

In addressing alternative correct-width rear-ends for Bob Ford, I should've
listed the Ford Granada and/or whatever the Lincoln counterpart is,
(Versailles?). It's supposedly about a direct swap if you're in the mood
for
a neat rear-end complete with rear disc brakes and a Ford 9-inch
differential. The widths are a great fit into our tri-5's.

Long time with no communication. We're starting restoration of our 55
hardtop and needing some parts. I remember there was a member "Cliff's
Classic Chevy", but I don't have the e-mail or phone anymore. I'd like to
check to see if he has flippers or armrests. I'd appreciate it if you'd
e-mail me his information if you have it, of if there is anyone else out
there who has these parts, let me know. Thanks. My e-mail is:

Horn follow up -
A reader responded off list about my horn not sounding. He
suggested spraying some WD-40 through the adjusting screw. At first it
didn't work but as I tweaked the screw in, the horn sounded. I also
rapped it with a rubber mallet to "perhaps" loosen the contacts. The
reason the other horn at first wouldn't sound was the bad horn was
probably drawing all the voltage.
As for the suggestion from another reader to remove the cover,
the screws are like a Phillips screw but with an extra line through it so
it is like a rosette screw. Any idea of what instrument unscrews such a
thing? Of course since the horns now work I don't plan on taking them
apart for now!
Finally does anybody know the musical notes these hi-low horns
are supposed to sound? The adjusting screws are designed to tweak the
horn to a particular note and with the third horn (the Dinah Shore horn)
the notes must have been interesting. I am basically tone deaf but with
two musically talented sons I figure they could tell me how close I am.

For those of you who receive CCI's monthly magazine check out
this issue for Jim and Carolyn Wheeler's custom. It is an awesome car
and the pictures don't do it justice. The accompanying article is a good
story about how car nuts (sorry Jim and Carolyn - it's meant with
affection) first acquire a car and make the restoration happen. Best of
all they drive the cars to shows all over the state. Arizona gains
another beautiful car to cruise in!

Hello ( Super Dude ) Bob, Greetings from Northern California. This is a
question to List member Kevin Jones. Kevin, you said you did the 'Fab' work
for your instillation of a R&P unit. How, or where did you mount the unit?
I've received a CCI magazine and they installed a rack unit with the aide
of a add on CCI 'crossmember'. Is this how you did yours? I am worried that
with this CCI way, installing 3/4 or full length Headers will be too
tight. And I do not want run Blockhugger Headers. That's all for now, Thank
you Bob for all you do. Bruce.
