I find it hard to believe that someone is complaining that you send them a
FREE list of cars for sale.
Do they think you set the price of these cars? Or do they think because
they appear on this list, that you recommend them? If they do, Grow Up.

Bill,

You don't need new hood hinges if keeping the hood up is the only
problem. There is 2 things to do to fix this problem.
1) buy new springs, and 2) remove the hinges from the car and tighten up
the rivets that are used as pivot points. The rivets get a little loose
with age and all you have to do is set one side of the rivet on something
solid and pound the other side of the rivet with a hammer to tighten it. Do
this to all the rivets and reinstall in the car with a new spring. I just
did this and it works great. Do not ever oil any part of a hood hinge!!

I believe the time without commercials was the John F. Kennedy
assassination when all regular programing stopped. I recall vividly the
hours of
symphonic music being played except when a news cut-in occurred. I am
sure everyone who was over 8 years old or so can recall where they were
when they heard the news.

Bob, thanks for the great list, we watch for it everyday.
We enjoy the cars for sale list and have purchased three cars from this
list in the last two years. Its great to be able to purchase a western
car and bring it back east to the rust belt. The cars that we purchase
are normally under the $10,000 range and they are always nice, so keep
the small spenders in mind when posting the for sale list, we also enjoy
"basket cases" if any one has some for sale/

Dear Bob. Please continue with the cars for sale list without any
changes.Everyone on who reads your lists should be intelligent enough to
make
their own decision about a car. High prices just go with the game. If the
price is too high, don't buy the car. It ain't no rocket science this car
buying business. Complainers should just not read the lists. They can
always go
to the classifieds in local newspapers or any of the many old car rags out
there.
Only thing I'd like to see is a separate list for trivia stuff. Keep car
talk
in one list and cars for sale in another. then everyone can have their cake
and eat it too.
Just my thoughts.

Bob, your listing of cars that are for sale is a fine gesture on your part,
and
I am sure is appreciated by most. As you mentioned, if people are not
interested in the listing they know where the delete key is. Furthermore,
we

Bob,

Thanks for all the effort you put into these listings!
Where can I send a donation to you for these listings?

Concerning the listing of "cars for sale", I appreciate it immensely!
I am looking for a 55 Nomad, but not seriously, (translation: not enough
cash...yet), and your lists give me a valuable tool in information, ideas,
leads and current
prices. I like your tip about contacting club members, and I am currently
following up on that
advice.

As far as the reality of the prices, I look at it this way;
If I poured my heart and soul into a complete restoration, custom, hot rod
or even a 57 Pro Street car, maybe I would ask a seemingly ludicrous price
as well. Because if I get the price, it will help ease the pain of seeing
it driven away by someone else,
give me enough to start another project car, or prevent me from selling it
in the first place. (Personally, I think it's the latter reason.)

Thanks for letting me "soap box" on all of you, and keep up the good work
Bob!
Wayne

P.S. More power to Larry with the $200,000 57 Pro Street car!!!
(Hey Larry, have you talked to Jay Leno yet?)

Editor's note. Give a donation to your local Chevy club. They do a lot of
good work that helps us all. Here is a suggestion for you. Do you have
some Chevy parts that are hard to sell? Put them on E-Bay and give the
proceeds to your club. Everybody wins.

<< NSURANCE.
First, let me say I do have my classics insured
with Hagerty and though I (fortunately) have not had
to make a claim, they are very easy to deal with and
(relatively) reasonable. They recognize that once you
are charged for one liability fee, each additional
vehicle is added for comp/collision for a specified
amount. I'd recommend them.
The GRIPE: Why is it that, at least in every
state I've lived in, on my "daily drivers, I have to
pay liability on each vehicle I own. Between the wife
and me we have nearly a dozen vehicles insured. It
gets so expensive that we only have comp/collision on
the newest one. Let's face it, we can't drive any
more than if we each only had 1 vehicle. I mean,
there's only so many hours in the day to be behind the
wheel. My question is, why can't the insurance
companies insure ME for liability and have ME covered
in WHATEVER I drive??? I think short of an "Insured
Revolt" nothing is going to get changed when we're
making the insurance companies so rich and powerful
with the premiums they have legislated for us to pay.
Thanks for hearing me out, -Delivery Dale
>>
Dale, I totally agree with WHY Ins. Co. can't insure the insured, & I asked

MY insurance agent about that a long time ago. He said they can't do that
for
many reasons. One is that every car has a different value & insurance rates

are imposed on what kind of car you have. Also, if they insured just you,
that means no one else could drive your car & be insured. I know just what
you mean, as there are 4 in our family & we have a total of 8 CARS
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also, I have a question, if anyone can answer,
would
sure appreciate it. I have contacted a few different insurance companies
who
specialize in insuring classic cars with limited mileage(including the
co.that Classic Chevy recommends. I can understand limited mileage & NOT
using your car as an everyday driver for the good rated they give you, BUT

when I was refused insurance because I told them that I do not keep my car
in
a ENCLOSED GARAGE, that just blew me away.!!!!!!!!!!! They said your car
must
be kept in an enclosed garage at all times when not driven! Even a carport

is not good enough for them! Not even the fact that I keep my car covered
with a quality car cover when not driving it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I

just got mad, told them I'll keep my Allstate Ins. & hung up! Richard

In response to the question about the only 2 days that TV stations went
without commercials.... I may be wrong, but I think that during the John F
Kennedy funeral there were no commercials. I can remember being excused
from school as an 8 year old and it was the only thing that was on (on all
three channels) of our black and white, Montgomery Ward, Airline TV set.
If I'm correct, what did I win?? Loal - Midland, Texas.

Bob,

I have a friend who lives not far from here who has been restoring vintage
Chevies for the past 25 years. He currently has a really nice '55 two-door

wagon up on his lift that is a few weeks from completion.

Nearby, he has on a stand an all-original, to-die-for 1957 283 Power Pack
dual-quad engine with a reproduction batwing oil bath air filter. The
heads
have been redone with new hardened valve seats but the low end has not been

tampered with. The short block is all original (rings, bearings, etc. all
original tolerances) and the date code stampings indicate that this motor
was
built in January of 1957 (the heads are the ones which came with this
block).
It has the V-shaped exhaust manifolds on the sides and the little batwing
air cleaner is as cute as it can be. It is painted original Chevy orange
just like from the factory. There is no paint on the fuel pump and it has
the
deep groove fan belt pulleys on the front.

He has sworn that he was going to put this motor in some project for the
past
15 years but now is interested in possibly selling it. If someone wants it

he is looking for around $4,000.00. To me this sound like a fair price
considering what it is. He told me that he can find all the other code
numbers to quote to someone who might be interested in an authentic
restoration of a convertible or some other project. It may also have the
original carburetor tags that came with the two four-barrel Rochesters.

This motor is located in Southwestern Indiana -- about 300 miles south of
Chicago, 150 miles from Indianapolis, 100 miles from Louisville and 150
miles
from Nashville. For anyone interested in an honest to God, drop-dead
authentic, high performance 1957 Bel Air restoration, here is your power
plant. Just send me an email message or give me a call and I will put you
in
phone contact with my friend. Serious inquiries only. Perhaps if I can
sell
this for him, he will go easy on me when I go to pick up the third member I

am going to have to rebuild for my crate.

Much obliged Bob, the list just keeps getting better with age.

Hi Bob and all list members.
I haven't written in a long time but I saw something on the list the other
day that disturbed me a little. I have been in the tire manufacturing
business for 27 yrs now and I would like to respond to the lady that
recommended people buy Blem tires. I know that some tires that have
cosmetic defects on them are branded Blems however very few. In a tire
plant if a tire has a cosmetic defect that can be repaired, buffed out, or
painted and that tire can be sold as a replacement trust me it will be. If
a tire has a serious cosmetic defect then it will be branded Blem. The
majority of Blem tires have other problems for example if the belts are not
aligned properly when the tire was built and the tire doesn't track
straight or wobbles this is called a high radial and if it can not be
corrected by a machine that grinds the shoulder of the tire these are also
branded Blems there good tires they just don't ride smooth and ware faster.
Also if a tire is not built properly and it is out of round and can't be
corrected by grinding these are also branded Blems. If a tire is not built
properly and is out of balance and can't be corrected these are branded
Blems. Most often first class tires made by large tire companies are sold
to auto manufactures to be put on new cars. The tires we buy at the tire
store are replacement tires not quite first class. With all due respect to
the lady and please I don't mean to offend any one all I am saying is if
you are going to by a Blem tire you need to be careful and know what you
are buying.

Now that I have bored every one out of there minds I would like to ask a
question. I have had my old 57 chevy for 25 yrs. and I have tried to keep
it as original as I can. I would like to ask if any one has an original 57
bumper jack and stand and handle they would like to sell reasonable please
let me know also I'm looking for a power steering unit, pump, Gen,
cylinder and linkage, priced reasonable.
Thank you all very much.
