Okay guys, stop me before I spend too much money....

I notice CCCI has their rear disc brake kits for sale right
now for $675.

This kit attaches discs to the stock rear end housing.

Does anyone else offer a comparable/ better kit at a
comparable/ better price?

Hi all, First of all I want to thank Bob for his efforts in providing us
with this forum. Bob, do you ever feel guilty for being "overpaid"????
Seriously, great job....it's refreshing to see such an unselfish attitude.
I have a couple of items to sell:1) a complete disc brake set up
using
original spindles and 69-72 A-body rotors, calipers brackets, hoses. I
converted this set up and it is ready to install.....new hoses, calipers,
seals, used (refaced) rotors. The whole setup $350.00. 2) a 605 steering
box
converted for use on a 55-57 Chevy. It has all new seals and the frame
bracket
made from an original steering box. I can provide the other frame bracket
that
is available in the after market. Hoses and pump will have to be provided
for
your application. $275.00
Pease contact me via E-mail rpol7966@yahoo.com or call for more
information. Thanks, Tim

Hi Bob. Keep up the great work on your list. I have a 55 Nomad which I have

been working on for the past few years(forever?). It has a 350 tpi motor,
a
700r4 trans & a 10 bolt posi from a 79 camaro. Ps pdisc brakes & a/c.I hope

to be driving it before I forget why I bought it.
My best story about going to a drive-in was with my first car, a 58 olds 98

starfire conv't. I went to the Plainfield-Edison drive in with four
friends,
but we never seemed to have enough money for both gas & the drive-in. All
four piled into the trunk, but we moved the spare tire to the front seat to

make more room in the trunk. When the girl looked at the tire, she smiled &

asked how many. My friend Mike stuck his head up from the well between the
rear seat & the trunk & said "one please". The girl again smiled, sold me
one
ticket & wished me and my spare a good night .
Thanks for the link on unclaimed property. I found something from when I
lived in Pa & I'll contact them this week.
Thanks for the list

Bob, I don't know if there's any connection here but when I upgraded
to a
newer version of "Internet Explorer" and "Outlook Express" I lost all my
e-mail
messages. I didn't care for it and went back to the old version. All the
lost
mail messages returned.
Here's a Turboglide question. I tried changing my '55 over to a newer
automatic from the 4 speed it has. I couldn't get a starter to fit the
holes
drilled in the 283 block, which I believe is a '59. Did the Turboglide
equipped
blocks use a unique starter mounting pattern? If so, how many teeth were on
their flywheels? I may still have a chance if they used the 153t. In case
you're wondering, the 4 speed was using the bellhousing mounted starter.

Editor's note. Turboglide cars had the starter mounted to the block on the
283's.
I think 55 Powerglides trannys were mounted to bell housing. I think some
vendors have a kit
that will let you mount a 55 starter so you can use a later year tranny.
Anyone know about these
kits? Steve Homes, can you help me out here?

Hi Bob,

With all the talk on here recently about Hood hinges, I've noticed no one
has mentioned that SOME Hinges are just weak because someone DID lubricate
the pivot points. More than once I've cured weak Hinges from Sand blasting
them. No trying to re-smash or replace the Rivots, OR replacing the Hood
hinge Springs. My Hinges hold the Hood up in ANY position.

Also, in October, 1974 I purchased a '57 BelAir 2-door Sedan WITH the side
straps in it for $40 and drove it home. Nothing fancy about this car. Most
of the 2-door Sedans I see now days, are missing these parts.

One other point I'd like to talk about is One-piece Frames. Four of my 57s
sit on One-piece Frames. Three were built in Norwood, OH, one in Kansas
City, MO. Nothing "West Coast" about THESE cars. The ONLY 57 I own with a
Two-piece lap welded Frame was built In Baltimore, MD.

Thanks and keep up the good work. RJ

To Wyatt,

According to the 9/99 Bow Times, the blades for 56 electric wiper blades
were
#4900368 or 4901607. Blades 4901607 are the same as #4900368 and were slod

over the counter/ Blades #4901607 were sold in 1956 and 1957, but
discontinued in 1958. THe blades are Celco. The rubber edge is smooth
unlike three 1957 electric wiper blades. There is an exaggerated curve at
the end of the blade. That's why the box called it the "powersweep contour

blade". THe box also advertised "for panoramic windshields - efficient
cleaning around the corners". The blades attached with "bayonet-style"
attaching ends. Delco is stamped in the top of the blade. The article has

several pictures.

Hey Joe ---
You haven't been reading this list or don't believe what you read. Bob 's
policy is to post what is given him. He's not making a profit. I have two

'57's that I will offer for sale at the low price of $100,000.00. I wonder

how many people will bring their money. The answer is none.
Also, since you want some single person to bring down all these prices, why

don't you get off your butt and do something instead of telling someone
else
to do the impossible.
As others have said in the past, if you don't like what you see, either
scroll past or ask Bob to remove you from the list.

Bob, keep up the great work.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

> I need some help on 56 Chevy Delco wiper arms and blades. I have 2
pairs of the original Delco electric wiper arms and a pair of
satin-finished >Anco blades. These blades are obviously not correct.
Where can I find a pair of the original blades for the Delco wiper
arms? How can I identify >them so that no one can try to sell me blades
that are not correct? I thought that someone a little bit ago had NOS
blades for 56 electric wipers...

Talk to Ficken Auto (www.wiperman.com), they rebuild Trico vacuum wiper
motors and sell replacement blades. I got a quote of $55 (I think) for
a set of 1957 electric wiper blades.

The straps or "loops" on the posts of the '55 two door you referred to are
called assist straps (both by Chevrolet and others in the industry). As the
name
implies, they were provided as a means by which rear seat passengers might
grab
a hold of them to assist themselves in exiting from the rear seat. My
recollection, subsequently confirmed through examination of info in Krause
Publications "Standard Catalog of American Cars 1946-1975", is that they
were
standard equipment on the "210" and "Belair" series. They were not
installed on
the base "150" series.

I doubt that you've had only "150" series two-doors in all years since your
recollection of your folks old 1955 "210". Rather, I'd venture that these
assist
straps, because of their location up above the cars' belt line, tend to be
vulnerable to sun damage over the years (especially in states of the
American
Southwest). And, since the rear seats tend to be used infrequently, I
suspect
that they tend to be removed when deteriorated and not often replaced. I
don't
know of any sources for the assist straps off-hand, but I'd suspect that
most
good trim shops could fabricate some reasonable facsimiles of the originals
given a photo from sales literature or a deteriorated original to copy.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

I was told that you handle ads for 1955-1957 Chevy's.
I am looking to purchase a 1955.
If you could let me know how I can obtain a copy of the ads
being placed with you, it would be appreciated.

Bob,

Regarding windows XP:
Don't hold your breath for XP. I would not recommend being on the bleeding
edge of technology for this one, it might really hurt. Here is some of the
information I have heard.

www.zdnet.com/anchordesk/stories/story/0.10738,2701649,00.html

Microsoft is now trying to dictate specs to the PC manufacturers. This
might
be ok if they were reasonable. I like the part about no "end user access to
expansion bus cards."

For anyone interested, this is a link to the unveiling of Windows XP, and a
tour of the "new" features. Some of it really is about it, while a lot of
it
is just marketing hype/filler. Either way, the presentation does offer some
insights into the UI of the new OS. 50 minutes.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/guide/emplive.asp

Seriously, it may ultimately be great, and I am certainly no expert on this
front; however, it sounds like a good one not to adopt too quickly, and
wait
to find out what problems others are experiencing after it is released.

Thanks,

Dave

Editor's note. As someone who has written a lot of code in my younger
days, I would advise anyone not to buy
any system or upgrade when it first comes out. Bleeding edge is correct.
With new cars having more and more software/firmware in them it is going to
be a nightmare for car makes to make sure the programs are bug free. I can
see the legal problems already if bad software causes a crash.
